Meet Leila Parker, a passionate dog groomer based in Aveley, where she runs a home-based salon. Open for business on Saturdays, Leila has built her grooming career from a deep love for dogs, which first started with grooming friends’ and family’s pets. Encouraged by those around her, she decided to pursue grooming professionally, completing a formal grooming course and gaining hands-on experience in different salons. Now, she’s focused on making her salon as sustainable as possible, a project she’s excited to keep developing!
Leila shares her home with a pug, while her partner has a labradoodle. In her salon, she thrives on being her own boss, enjoying the flexibility, creativity, and independence that come with running her own grooming space.
Having groomed for many years, Leila took the plunge into the professional world after being made redundant from a previous job. She turned the setback into an opportunity, investing in her skills through training, working in salons, and attending additional grooming courses to refine her expertise.
When it comes to grooming styles, Leila loves the variety of working with different breeds and coat types. She particularly enjoys de-shedding, finding satisfaction in removing loose fur and leaving dogs feeling fresh and comfortable. While hand stripping is a rarer request, she enjoys the change of pace when the opportunity arises. That said, her favorite look is a well-executed teddy bear clip—there’s nothing more rewarding than creating an irresistibly cute, fluffy face!
Outside of grooming, Leila leads a busy life as a full-time healthcare professional, with grooming being her passion project and creative outlet. She recently completed a major home renovation, which was a huge but fulfilling challenge. When she’s not working, she loves spending time with her partner, friends, family, and her beloved dogs. She also has a keen interest in arts and crafts, using creativity as a way to unwind and recharge.
