We have slightly over ordered 😳😂 This means we have 50 hens available, first in best dressed. They are 16 weeks old, so will start laying in around 4 weeks (just long enough to settle in to your chook coop). Girls are $35 each, pick up at the farm

🌒🌞 Winter Solstice & Your Chickens – What’s Changing? 🌞🌒

Today is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year! From here, the daylight slowly starts increasing… and yes, your chickens will notice.

What to expect next:

📈 Egg laying may return
As the days get longer, hens’ hormones kick back into gear. Egg production might start to pick up—slowly but surely.

🪶 Moulting hens recover
If your flock’s been looking scruffy, longer light cues help trigger feather regrowth and body repair.

🍽️ Energy still matters
It’s still cold! Keep offering warming treats like cracked corn in the late afternoon to help hens stay cosy overnight.

So, while it’s our darkest day, the light is on its way back and your chooks will be right there with it.

It’s time to move on some of our older girls 🥰These girls are into their second laying season and are currently around a 50% lay rate; but they still have plenty of life left! If you’re after some backyard chickens, these girls are perfect… nice, quiet and friendly and should produce around 3-4 eggs a week. They’ll lay a bit less over the winter as all hens do, but come springtime you’ll be off-loading eggs to your family and friends 😁.
$15 each, $13.50 for 5+ or $12.00 for 10+. Pick up Saturday morning between 8am and midday. Please text to reserve your girls so we know how many to catch!

We often get asked if recycling for your 10 cent refund is really worth it… This lucky man is currently enjoying a 16 day holiday in Vietnam and Cambodia entirely funded by the container deposit scheme! And… it only took a year to do. So if you’re wondering if 10 cents is worth your effort, think of Gary. We’ll done, mate 👏😁

Yep it’s a as frustrating for us as it is for everyone else.
We are 1000 hens less than usual on farm at the moment and still waiting on the newbies to kick into gear and lay. So the remaining hens that we have are doing the best they can but with the current egg shortage the timing isn’t ideal.
We have decided to open the farmgate for eggs on Saturday only this week, we know it doesn’t suit everyone and are very sorry for the inconvenience. Fingers crossed that it is only for a short time.
