I am so happy to say that Sprout is back to his pre-injury level of flight! He's able to ascend, descend, land (without just crash landing) with ease! Now we can get back to further building his skills and confidence which is what we were working on before he got injured. I am gladly surprised that he has recovered to this point as I had been preparing myself for the possibility that he'd not be able to properly fly again and what that would like like for his overall health and well-being (and planning on how I'd need to set things up for a bird with limited movement). Took us about 3 months to get here but it was so worth it to see my little buddy happy and mobile once again 😊

Of course I had to take another progress video from the same spot as last time!

Monkey very rarely uses this swing but today he decided he wanted to chill and just gently swing for a bit (bonus Pistachio photobombing as he really loves the camera lol)

Sprouts had the same cage since I adopted him in 2021, the cage used to be my Quaker parrot Monkey's before he got an upgrade and the cage itself was a second hand one. So I had been wanting to upgrade Sprouts cage for quite some time as it was on the smaller side, the wheels don't work properly so it's a pain to move when I clean and the bottom tray always got stuff stuck behind it so was awful to keep clean. I asked mum and dad for money towards a new cage for my birthday this year so I finally picked it up yesterday as the local pet store had them discounted. The display with this cage label was about the same size as my other green cheek conure Pistachios. Well I put it together today and it's just a bit bigger 😅 i think Sprout is going to love his new castle and I may have to ask for an upgrade for Pistachio next year!

Managed to get a very cute photo of Sprout today! (A real triumph as he always runs away when I pull out my phone but apparently giving him and almond in front of the window is the trick)

He currently has 2 half length (theyre still growing in) tail feathers so fingers crossed he doesn't chew these ones out and let's more grow in as the lack of tail feathers definitely affects his confidence flying

Today is Monkeys 5th hatchday!
Cannot believe my little blue bird is 5 already! While Monkey is the least cuddly of my flock he still enjoys hanging out, chatting and occasionally snuggling into my neck (and trying to stick his face between my glasses and my eye)

Whenever I give my dogs a carrot (they absolutely love munching on carrots) I always cut the top off which the birds then get as a snack. Monkey apparently doesn't want to share this one 😅

I can't believe it's been 5 years already! (And that I spaced and missed the actual day on Saturday)

5 years ago I brought this timid little bird home. Our first few weeks was mostly spent with me hanging out beside him and offering seeds to slowly show him I wasn't scary. As he got more comfortable with me his personality started to shine through and he became the sweetest little snuggly bird with such a big goofball attitude.

It's because of Pistachio that I started For The Parrots as most bird toys were either made for larger birds or, when they were made for small birds, were all plastic and didn't allow them to express natural behaviours by destroying them. So I started making toys and Pistachio started actually playing with them!

What a great 5 years, here's to many more!

It's Sprout's 3rd Gotcha Day! 🎉✨️

3 years ago I was working with the rescue he was at, making and donating some toys for the birds in care. During that time I saw them post this sweet little guy and fell in love. Once he was cleared to be adopted I hopped in my car and drove for several hours to meet up and bring him home. It took some time to build his trust but he settled into the new routine at home pretty well. He has a long history of plucking with many ups and downs over the years but the last 6 months has been the best since I've had him. He's a happy little guy who loves hanging out and chatting away.

I can't believe it's already been 3 years and I can't wait to spend many more years together with my spunky little dude 💕
