Guess who’s back and bossier than ever? That’s right— our own Harry Potter 🧙
Recently, our pint-sized drama king gave us a scare with signs of severe colic. He was rushed to WestVETS Equine Hospital for emergency abdominal surgery, where the team discovered a rare surprise: an enterolith—a stone-like mass lodged in his small colon, wrapped around a calcified hair.
Enteroliths are extremely rare in horses this young, but Harry doesn’t do anything halfway. Thanks to quick action and expert surgery, the stone is out and he’s now on the mend, recovering under the close watch of Nurse Jenna and Dr. David (one of the original pioneers of equine colic surgery here at Redlands). This is major abdominal surgery and with our equine hospital downsizing, we knew the best place for Harry would be with the expert team West Vets. We thank them so much for their excellent care and communication as they worked to save Harry’s life.
His recovery comes with risks, but our team is tackling each one with care, using gold-standard protocols for gastrointestinal healing. And Harry? He’s already giving side-eye from Stall 3 and making sure everyone stays on task.
Huge thanks to the entire team who helped save this feisty little soul. Harry’s still got a road ahead, but with his resilience (and attitude), we’re hopeful 🤞
