We have a happy Wombat Wednesday story to share…a wonderful friend of Carol’s volunteered to use her amazing property as the release site for our very lovely Albert to live his best life and perfect his wombatting skills! He was lucky to be able to share this experience with a lady friend where they are now discovering the world on 6 luscious acres of bush and scrub 🙏❤️❤️ Albert has been a much loved character around the shelter…we will miss his chatter and charm immensely…big loves Albert

We are sending a very urgent plea to the local community in the hope someone may have seen or heard our resident long beaked corella, BoBo around their property over the last couple of days? He is very friendly and loves the company of people! SHOCKING - Jacinta Allan has just approved and sanctioned the aerial shooting of koalas in Budj Bim National Park.

According to the Department of Environment (DEECA), “extensive assessments” have been done to justify this brutal act — claiming there isn’t enough food in the park to sustain them.

If that’s the case, then why are blue gum plantations — the very places these koalas likely came from — still being harvested, leaving thousands displaced with nowhere to go?

Jacinta, how do you justify:

Allowing shooters to kill koalas indiscriminately from helicopters, without proper health assessments?
Not checking if these koalas are healthy, or if they are mothers carrying dependent joeys?
Calling this a “mercy killing” when it is anything but?

Health assessments cannot be done from 30 meters above the ground. This is not science, this is cruelty.

Under DEECA, our wildlife are not safe. These killings are unlawful, shrouded in secrecy, and only came to light after the fact. The public was never supposed to find out. And now the government is trying to rebrand it as a kind act? Despicable.

If the public is willing to believe this spin, the rest of our native wildlife is in deep, deep trouble.

We are moments away from a federal election. There must be accountability.

Please add your voice and stand besides us to help end the continuous roadstrike against our local wildlife.
Wellington Road is a blood bath for all animals. Kagaroos are most impacted, followed by wallabies, wombats, and possums. But we see everything dead on this road, from turtles to lizards, native endangered rodents, and birds.
We have been fighting the good fight for years, but with population growth, overdevelopment, and mismanagement of local habitats, our wildlife is getting squeezed from all ends, and the roadstrikes are increasing by the day. This needs to stop!

This is something that is very close to our hearts, and a road that Carol and all of us here at the Shelter are all too familiar with.
Please sign and help us to add your voice to stop the daily wildlife roadstrike on Wellington road.
Our wildlife suffers enormously by this incredibley treacherous road. We are loosing too many at an enormous rate.
