🌱 A whisper from the smallest heart… 🌱
They call me Ivy, three weeks new,
A wisp of wool, a dream come true.
The tiniest lamb with a mighty will,
At bottle time, I’m never still! 🍼✨
I dance on hooves so small, so light,
In morning sun and soft moonlight.
I’ve started nibbling hay with pride—
A little lady, eyes open wide. 🌾
In our playpen, joy takes flight,
With Annabelle, Rusty, Angus, and Lior in sight.
We tumble, we rest, we learn, we play,
Growing stronger with each new day. 🐑💗
Though I may be little in size,
I hold the stars behind my eyes.
And in this place where love runs deep,
Even the smallest soul finds peace.
With love,
Ivy 🌙

Hugo says this is not okay !
Imagine being stripped of your only protection in the dead of winter—because you’re not human.
That’s the brutal reality for thousands of sheep across Australia. Sheared in icy winds, left shivering, trembling, and exposed. All for convenience, routine, profit.
And when questioned, some shearers justify it with, “They’re not human.”
Thank goodness sheep are smarter than that—they feel the cold, the fear, the pain. They seek shelter, huddle together, and suffer in silence.
Winter shearing is not just unkind—it’s barbaric.
Hypothermia, illness, stress, and death are real and devastating consequences. Yet the industry shrugs, and society turns a blind eye.
At Freedom Hill Sanctuary, our sheep are treated with respect, never sheared in the cold. Their comfort and wellbeing come first—always.
Welfare shouldn’t be seasonal. Compassion shouldn’t be optional.
This is not okay.

In a world of dust and silence, Echo’s cry rose above the wind—answered not by her mother, but by hope. From barren paddocks to gentle arms, Echo and Haven found not just safety, but each other.
From the fury of a drought-stricken wind came a voice—Echo, desperate and alone. Haven, barely surviving by her side. That day, their cries led them to sanctuary.
Two months on, these girls have grown strong. Side by side, they’ve swapped dust storms for soft straw beds, fear for friendship, and uncertainty for a life filled with love.
Echo and Haven, forever bonded by survival—and now by sanctuary.

🌩 From a hailstorm of fear to a sanctuary of peace… this is Sweetie’s story.
Once able to see the world around her, Sweetie’s sight was slowly and cruelly taken from her — first by an untreated infection in one eye, and then by trauma to the other. She had already endured four seasons of forced breeding, her body used up by the industry. When she went blind, the farmer simply said, “She’s of no use now.”
But to us, Sweetie is everything.
We rescued her on a wild winter’s day, thunder cracking overhead, hail pelting down — a frightened soul who had lost not just her vision but her place in the world. And though she can no longer see, she knows safety now. She knows warmth. She knows Lucerne hay — and she’ll baa endlessly if you dare offer anything else!
Sweetie has never wanted a paddock companion. She prefers her own company and has made it clear she’s not interested in friends, and that’s perfectly fine. At Freedom Hill, we honour the individuality of every life.
She can’t be sheared — the stress overwhelms her and she holds her breath — but her fleece sheds naturally, and we gently help when needed.
Sweetie may not fit anyone’s idea of a “perfect” sheep… but to us, she is perfectly herself. And that’s more than enough.
💛 Sweetie is in her senior years now and we value what time we have left with her.

Big hearts. Little steps.
Angus the lamb and Helen the cow — two gentle souls standing side by side, reminding us that friendship knows no size, no species, no boundaries.
It’s in the quiet moments like this that the sanctuary speaks the loudest…
A young lamb, just starting his journey, finding calm beside a wise and nurturing elder.
Helen, with her steady grace, and Angus, with his curious wonder — a bond formed not through words, but through trust and the safety of love.
This is the magic of sanctuary life. A place where unlikely friendships bloom, and every life matters.
From different worlds, but walking the same path here at Freedom Hill Sanctuary — where life begins, and love sees all. 💛

✨ A Special Visitor ✨
Today was a day filled with extra cuddles and secret joy… because Annabelle’s rescue mumma, Lyndsey, came to visit!
From the moment Annabelle heard that familiar voice, her little tail wagged with excitement. Straight into her arms she went, nuzzling into the one who scooped her up when she was lost and afraid. Their bond is unbreakable—a love story that began the moment Lyndsey chose to give her a chance at life.
While the other lambs were off playing, Annabelle soaked in every second of their time together—her own little secret she kept close to her heart. There’s something so beautiful about these reunions… the recognition, the trust, the peace.
Thank you, Lyndsey, for being the reason Annabelle’s story had a beginning. And thank you to every kind soul who helps us write these happy chapters.
💛 Annabelle, the little lamb with a big heart, had the best day ever.

Do you remember our little Tilly?
From fragile beginnings to this picture of grace and growth, nearly 4 months old. Tilly has blossomed into a gentle soul who’s often found gazing into the distance — we wonder what stories play behind those soft, thoughtful eyes.
Quiet by nature, she’s not one to push forward, but she’s always present… especially when food is involved! And by her side? Her besties Flicker and Talitha, an inseparable trio stitched together by trust, comfort, and sanctuary.
From uncertain starts to peaceful days — this is what love, safety, and friendship can do. 💛

🌿 Introducing the Kindness Crèche 🌿
With our beloved Sheep Haven always in high demand, we’ve created a brand-new space to continue the peaceful journey of our youngest residents — welcome to the Kindness Crèche 💚
This purpose-built, heated room is a gentle stepping stone for our lambs who’ve graduated from the nursery — a calm, comforting space where friendships blossom, woolly bodies rest, and tiny hearts feel safe.
In true Freedom Hill spirit, today the new space was blessed with a crystal sound healing ceremony led by Padma — a soothing way to ease little minds and help them settle into their new surroundings. Wyatt and Tilly, two of our kindest souls, were completely mesmerised by the serene tones as they welcomed new friends, whilst others ate and some tasted the crystal bowls.
The Kindness Crèche reflects the gentle rhythm we nurture here — from bottle to bond, from nursery to new beginnings. Because every baby lamb deserves more than just survival. They deserve peace, presence, and the kindness of a quiet room where healing begins.

Farm Animal Rescue
Freedom Hill Sanctuary ~ Where Life Begins
Freedom Hill Sanctuary is the first farm animal sanctuary in South Australia. Starting back in 2011 with the first rescue lamb called Lynn, named after Lyn White from Animals Australia.
Lynn was a orphaned twin lamb who spent his days with our 4 dogs, running playing with them and sheltering when it rained in the kennels with them. He knew no difference and was not treated any different than our dogs. Lynn received as much love and cuddles as all animals deserved. Lynn taught me that being vegan was not enough that I needed to tell the world how intelligent sheep are, I needed to show people that all animals including ‘farmed’ animals have the same feelings and desires as domestic animals, hence the creation of Freedom Hill Sanctuary.
Since then we have increased at a rapid rate including many more sheep, all with their own unique stories, calves rescued from the horrendous dairy industry, Teddy Moo being our first dairy calf rescue at 3 days old, pigs, goats, chickens & ex race horses.
Freedom Hill Sanctuary is in the process of expanding to a larger property so we can continue with the much needed secure home for the forgotten ones.
We would love to see each and everyone of you once we are setup and offering tours to the public and schools.
Education is the key!
Thank you so much for your wonderful support, we cannot do this with out you.
