📣Let’s talk horse prices and sales📣
We constantly have owners sending horses in for sales prep and a question we always ask is “What price are you putting on the horse?”
Common answers:
• “Well with the right owner/rider he would be a really nice horse so, $blah blah blah”
• “My friend/daughter/mum/partner reckons he’s definitely worth $blah blah blah”
• “He’s got good blood lines, one day he’ll be an outstanding horse so I’m thinking nothing below $blah blah blah”
Firstly if your friend, mother, sister, daughter, partner, parent or whoever thinks your horse is worth X amount of money, well get your wallet out then!
Moving onto breeding/blood lines! Yes 100% breeding and bloodlines etc contribute to the sale, training and price of your horse HOWEVER things to consider if you’ve put a hefty price on a horse just because of its bloodlines:
Please consider…
• Yes they may be bred for something specific but sometimes that doesn’t always work out
• Always add “BLANK CANVAS” to the add
• Because it has good breeding simply doesn’t mean it’s worth the price of a luxury home!
“With the right owner/rider” this is what we consider “bullsh*t sales techniques”!!! To state the obvious all horses will go well with “their right owner/rider”!
If the horse simply doesn’t have enough or the correct training and you are selling it on, it does NOT make it SEEM better or increase the price just because of that statement. That statement is a cleaner way of saying “NEEDS WORK” “COULD DO WITH GOING TO A TRAINER”!
Let me be clear, it is OK to sell horses for ANY reason! But think about your prices and horses when you sell!!
