So as most of you know, without my lovely trailer, and the lack of availability from other groomers, I've been doing little dog grooms from home, before my house goes on the market.
What I didn't know, is how much I would LOOOOVE it!!
I picked mobile grooming for a lot of reasons. Most, if not all of my ongoing clients, are with me because they have had unpleasant and stressful experiences elsewhere.
So for me, having the ability to groom the dog, in an environment that, even if stressful, the dog is home so they can decompress very quickly, was always the number one reason.
I've worked in a couple of salons, and the environments are all the same. Stressed dogs. Dogs barking, crying all day. Dogs crated, no toilet break, no water all day. And there is the "groom the dog, using whatever technique necessary" (ie muzzle, person holding, forceful holding πetc). The reason I recently quit the salon job was because I was reprimanded for showing another staff member that "sometimes the dog just needs a cuddle and reassurance, rather than force".
Grooming at home - while the insurance is even more exxy - has been a whole other level of relaxed! (Not factoring in the bathtub with that silly shower hose of course π)
Some dogs have played with my dogs, others have not - again that is up to the dog owners.
But having the ability to bath and dry the dog - let them go and play in the backyard for a bit.
Clip the dog, let them off the table to relax for a bit - have something to eat, play etc.
In the case of gorgeous little Perry yesterday- in the trailer, she was very overwhelmed by the dryer, so it took a long time to dry her. Resulting in her being so over tired, that by the time we came to clipping, it was difficult to get an even clip/scissor etc.
At my home yesterday, she was no fazed by the dryer - provided the nozzle was off.
She was happy for her feet/nails etc to he trimmed- if she could sit on my lap on the floor.
So when it came to trimming her face, she was asleep on the table π
For me personally, having had my own share of anxious dogs, experiences like this are what changes your dogs ability to cope with future scary things like grooming, vet visits, kennel stays.
Plus I REALLY REALLY love that I got to play, and cuddle and spend the day with everyone's dogs.
My hope is that you all find someone that loves your dogs, and cares about the well-being as much as I do.
I've spent a good 10years of my life trying to learn and understand the canine brain, biologically appropriate diets, enrichment and how it re-wires the canine brain, how to train/retrain dogs without the use of adversives etc.
If any if you need help learning tips on how to groom your dogs, cut nails, enrichment etc - you are always always welcome to message me (here, text, my private facey) π₯°
