Central Coast residents ⚠️ 1080 baiting is currently taking place in some areas. Please be aware that dogs can be fatally poisoned by eating bait or dead animals (carcasses) that have consumed 1080, even after baiting programs have ended.
Dogs are extremely sensitive to 1080, and signs may appear within hours. Symptoms can include vomiting, anxiety, drooling, frantic behaviour, shaking, staggering, seizures, collapse, or sudden distress.
If you suspect your dog has eaten bait or a carcass, seek emergency veterinary care immediately. 1080 is extremely deadly so quick action is the best chance for survival, however, survival rates are extremely low. Due to there being no antidote, treatment is supportive in nature only and aimed at controlling seizures, stabilising the dog, and reducing absorption if caught early.
Please keep dogs on lead, be aware of baited areas and surrounding areas incase poisoned animals have travelled a distance before dying, supervise your dogs closely, and do not allow them to sniff or eat anything unknown while out walking.
