Patience - because horses learn at their own pace. Progress comes through quiet consistency, not rushing or forcing. Every ride is a conversation, and sometimes the best answer you’ll get is “not yet.”
A sense of humor - because horses have a way of humbling us. A spook, a silly mistake, or an unexpected quirk can feel frustrating in the moment, but when you can laugh and let go, you build a better partnership.
Anything else - anger, fear, ego — clouds your judgment and erodes trust. Good horsemanship isn’t about control; it’s about clarity, compassion, and connection.
