What started as a routine pet feed recently turned into a life-saving mission ๐๐
While arriving at a property where I regularly care for a cat and three dogs, I noticed one of the goats lying down in the paddock. As a qualified vet nurse, something about the way she was positioned immediately concerned me. After checking on the cat and dogs, I went out to investigate, and sadly, she had already passed away.
The bigger concern was that she had left behind two young kids.
I contacted the owner straight away, and together we made a plan for me to pick up milk replacer and return to try bottle-feeding them. Teaching baby goats to take a bottle when theyโve never had one before was definitely a challenge, but thankfully they were familiar with people and hungry enough that I managed to get some milk into them.
Over the following days, I made a few extra visits to ensure they were feeding well and coping without their mum. I was so happy to hear that when the owner returned home, both little goats were bright, healthy, and doing well ๐ฅฐ
This is exactly why having a qualified vet nurse caring for your animals can make such a difference. Anyone can feed pets, but being trained to notice subtle changes and unusual behaviour can sometimes mean the difference between life and death.
Thankfully, in this case, it also meant I got to spend a few days with two very adorable little goats ๐
