💩Send us your stock stool samples💩
At this time of year roundworms will be out in numbers. Worms deposited over winter are much more active now that daily temperatures are often staying over 10°C. Therefore, an increase in infective stages will be present at this time of year, and your stock (especially youngstock) will be at their highest risk.
It is important to note that not all groups will have high worm burdens necessitating treatment. Pooled faecal egg counts (FEC) are the most effective way to get an idea of the worm burden among a herd. A FEC will tell you if it is necessary to drench, or whether you are better off delaying treatment and saving dollars. Just bring us a pooled sample of faeces and we will do the rest (take disposable spoon and collect a spoonful from 10-15 fresh samples off the ground).
Timing your treatments based on FECs will save you money and reduce the risk of resistance developing which would result in an ineffective product.
Did you know this also all applies to horses? Our equine friends are also at risk of high worm burdens (although different species). But rest assured we can test for this too!
