So great to hear that after a lot of work from Dr. Isabel and some FMT caps little Bilbo is much happier in more ways than one π«Ά
Confession from Dr. Isabel herself π£οΈ
βI was very sceptical about F***l Microbiota Therapy (FMT)π©π
As a vet, the idea of using poo as a treatment felt⦠well, a little hard to get excited about. But I was also willing to try anything that might help my own dog.
Bilbo, the light brown Terrier cross on the left is a rescue dog who came to us as a very frightened puppy πΆ Over the years weβve worked incredibly hard on his anxiety. Weβve used medication, supplements, training, behaviour modification and desensitisation. All of those things helped, but we still struggled with a sensitive gut, anxiety around larger dogs and the need for sedation during nail trims.
Four months after starting FMT, Iβve seen changes I honestly didnβt expect.
πΎ His gut health continues to improve.
πΎ He now approaches larger dogs and even initiates play.
πΎ He tolerates nail trims without sedation
πΎ Most surprisingly of all, he has started initiating play with me, something he had never done before.
Of course, this is only one dogβs experience and FMT wasnβt the only intervention weβve used. But the changes since starting treatment have been significant enough that I felt they were worth sharing.
As a veterinarian, I went into this sceptical. As a dog owner, Iβve been delighted by the results π
Thank you Sovereign Vet Hospital for offering FMT. Iβve been converted; seeing a dog who spent so much of his life worried and uncertain become more confident, playful and comfortable in the world has been incredibly rewarding π
