🐾 Pepe visited us recently for a cryptorchid castration — a procedure performed when one or both testicles haven’t descended properly.

💡 Fun fact: Cryptorchidism is a relatively common condition in male dogs and is often picked up during early health checks.
💡 Another fact: Dogs with cryptorchidism should not be bred, as the condition is hereditary and can be passed on to offspring.

Pepe handled it like a pro - guess he's already mastered the art of keeping some secrets under wraps!

🐾 Scarlett - Our Brave Girl 🐾

Everyone, meet Scarlett — a beautiful 4-year-old Bull Mastiff X and a cherished patient at The Neighbourhood Vet- Tewantin.

Scarlett was diagnosed with lymphoma, a common type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system in dogs. Lymphoma is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers in dogs, often involving the lymph nodes, spleen, liver, and bone marrow.

With help from a team of medical professionals, including Animal Emergency Service Tanawha and Dr Catherine Chan- The Pet Oncologist, Scarlett has completed a tailored chemotherapy treatment plan.

With copious amounts of courage, TLC, and the support of her family, Scarlett is recovering well and enjoying life to the fullest.

Scarlett’s journey is a reminder of the resilience our animal companions show us every day. We’re proud to be part of her care and thrilled to see her doing so well.

✨️Welcome Dr Hugh! ✨️

We have been open a year now and have enjoyed meeting every one of you. The Tewantin community has welcomed us with open arms and in the same way we hope you will welcome our newest team member Dr. Hugh Hiemstra.

He will be available for consultations on Mondays, and we’re thrilled to have him on board.

A little about Dr Hugh…
Dr Hubert Hiemstra is an experienced small animal veterinarian with over 20 years in the profession, with a strong background in both emergency and general practice. He brings a calm, practical approach to clinical work, with a passion for problem-solving and clear communication.

Hugh is also the host of The Vet Vault podcast, where he gets to learn from some of the best veterinary specialists in the world on an almost daily basis and shares those insights with vets across the globe.

He’s committed to continuous learning and supporting the veterinary community—both at the consult table and beyond.

Outside of work, Hugh is a dad to three energetic young boys, a whippet-poodle cross, a long-haired dachshund, and more chickens than he can count! He is a keen surfer, and his rare spare time seems him joining the younger crew at the beach :)
