🐾💳 Alright, let’s be honest about pet insurance 💳🐾

Vet bills aren’t cheap, and emergencies always seem to happen at the worst possible time. Having pet insurance can take away so much of that stress.

We partner with GapOnly here at the clinic, and one of the best parts is that they can pay us directly at checkout (with most pet insurance companies).

No huge upfront bill, no waiting weeks for reimbursement, you just have to pay the gap - one less thing for you to worry about when your pet needs care.

Because at the end of the day, planning ahead by having pet insurance means you can afford to focus on your pet’s wellbeing in times of emergency, not your wallet. ❤️

🌼 R U OK? Day 🌼

At the vet clinic, we often meet people on some of the hardest days of their lives - when a beloved pet is unwell, when a tough decision needs to be made, or when the weight of life just feels a little too heavy.

We see your worry. Your love. Your strength. And sometimes, your heartbreak.

So on R U OK? Day, we want to remind you:
🌼If today feels hard - please tell us.
🌼If you need a moment to breathe - take it.

At EDVH, we don’t just care for animals, we care for their people too.

Community matters, and the world becomes a gentler place when we look out for one another. Let’s build a space where it’s okay to not be okay, and where we all have each other’s back - not just today, but every day.

So let us know if the world feels heavy, because we care.

Because I care.

With love,
Annie 💛

🦷✨ Another dental transformation! ✨🦷

This is sweet Tilly, and just look at the drastic difference after her dental procedure. Not only do her teeth look amazing, but her quality of life has improved so much, fresher breath, more comfort, and a much happier smile. 💕

Dental health is a big part of overall wellbeing, and seeing pets like Tilly thrive after their treatments is why we push so hard for dental health awareness. 🐾

🌿🦘🐾 Caring for our Wildlife 🐾🦘🌿

Australia is home to some of the most unique and diverse wildlife in the world, and here at our clinic, we do what we can to help protect and support our ecosystem. 💚

Sometimes members of the public come across injured wildlife, often on the road, and after reporting to and getting advice from Wildlife Victoria, they bring these animals to us for care.

This little one is a baby ringtail possum, who is now safe and being looked after by Renny, one of our dedicated and experienced wildlife carers. 🐾

We’re proud to play a part in giving our wildlife a second chance at life. 🌏✨

🦷 Would you believe this tooth looks totally normal?

To the naked eye, everything seemed fine but dental X-rays told a different story. 👀

This poor pup had a tooth with a wide pulp cavity (a sign of a non-vital or dead tooth) and, once under anaesthetic, deep pockets were found during probing. Left untreated, this could’ve led to chronic pain and infection, without any obvious signs at home.

💡This is why dental X-rays and thorough exams under anaesthetic are so important.

We can’t treat what we can’t see!

💙🐾 Happy Father’s Day 🐾💙

Dads often show love in the quietest ways, the early morning walks, the steady hand at the vet visit, the way they make sure the food bowl is always full. They may not always say much, but we can always feel their affection in the little things they do.

Today, we celebrate all the dads - pet-dads and dad-dads alike - who show love through their care, protection, and presence. Our lives (and our pets’ lives) are warmer and safer because of you.

To all the dads out there, we see your efforts. We love you 💕
Happy Father’s Day from all of us at East Doncaster Vet Hospital. 💙🐶🐱

🚨🐾 Meet Mac 🐾🚨

‼️May contain graphic images ‼️

Mac, a 6-year-old Rottweiler, came to us recently because he couldn’t urinate - a very serious and painful emergency for dogs. After an X-ray, we discovered the cause: multiple bladder stones blocking his urinary tract.

Our vet team quickly performed surgery to remove all of the stones from his bladder, and we’re so happy to report that Mac recovered beautifully. 💙

Bladder stones can be life-threatening if not treated promptly, so if your pet is ever straining to urinate or seems uncomfortable, please contact your vet straight away.

We’re so proud of Mac for being such a brave boy through it all! 🐶✨

💙🐾 Kasumi’s Chemo Journey 🐾💙

This is Kasumi, our sweet 12-year-old Staffy who has been part of our clinic family for many years. Earlier this year, her owner noticed an enlarged lymph node under her jaw. In March 2025, our vets ran tests and confirmed lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system.

Since April, Kasumi has been on a carefully managed chemotherapy program, and we are so happy to share that she is doing well so far! ✨ She’s still her sweet, loving self, enjoying her days with her family, and showing us all how strong and resilient our pets can be.

Cancer journeys are never easy, but with early detection and dedicated care, pets like Kasumi can still enjoy a wonderful quality of life. 💕

Please join us in sending Kasumi and her family all the love and strength for the rest of her treatment. 💌

Our handsome ginger-and-white boy, Floyd, was with us for just under 24 hours before finding his forever home! 💕 It was love at first sight, and we couldn’t be happier for him and his new family.

🌸☀️ Spring is in the air – and that means new adventures for our pets!

As the weather warms up, here are a few important tips to keep your pets safe and happy this season:

🐾 Allergies: Just like us, pets can develop seasonal allergies. Watch for itchy skin, red ears, or excessive licking and let us know if you notice any changes.

🌱 Toxic plants: Spring blooms are beautiful, but some (like lilies, daffodils, and azaleas) are dangerous to cats and dogs. Check your garden and keep the curious ones safe!

🦟 Parasites: Warmer weather brings fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. Make sure your pet’s parasite prevention is up to date to protect against itchy bites and serious diseases like heartworm.

🌞 Outdoor fun: Longer days mean more walks and playtime! Remember to provide fresh water, avoid hot pavements, and never leave pets in cars as temperatures climb.

Spring is the season of new beginnings - let’s make sure it’s a safe, healthy, and happy one for your pet. 🌼🐕🐈

🐾 Desensitisation in Style! 🐾

Meet Grover, the confident cat who strutted in our clinic on a leash, rocking his cosy oodie and making sure everyone knew he had arrived 😼🧥

But behind Grover’s sass and style is a powerful example of desensitisation training, a process that helps pets gradually get used to potentially stressful experiences, like vet visits.

💡 Why is desensitisation important?
Many cats (and dogs!) find new environments overwhelming: unfamiliar smells, sounds, and handling can trigger fear or anxiety. Desensitisation involves repeated, positive exposure to these experiences, starting at a low level and building up slowly over time. This can look like:

✅Introduce harnesses or carriers at home, with treats and praise
✅Let them explore the car or vet clinic without the pressure of a full exam
✅Practice short vet visits for cuddles and snacks, not just needles
✅Work at your pet’s pace, patience is key

Grover’s comfort at the vet is no accident. It’s the result of intentional, gentle training. With time and consistency, even the most nervous pets can build confidence and feel safer during vet care.

We’re always happy to chat - give us a call 📞 9842 8833 or book an appointment online https://ap-booking.vetstoria.com/booking/5f851fe6d87b3?r=4&step=2
