Everyone has one of those horses that is always the Bridesmaid but D’Andra pulled the blue today at Cooyar Draft and to make it even more special owner Gwen was here to cheer for her! Then Richard and Georgia Chugg’s mare Arlee Boss Lady took out the Blue in the Restricted Open today as well! Congratulations 🙌

24 YEARS. 25 ADVERTISEMENTS. ONE VERY SPECIAL STALLION.

BOONARA MENTOR

Rather than reinventing the wheel with another stallion advertisement this year, we thought we'd do something a little different…

We went back through the archives.
Twenty-five advertisements spanning the years, each capturing a little piece of Boonara Mentor’s story.

Back in 2006, he was “A Champion in the Making” — a young stallion with a promising performance career ahead of him.

By 2007 and 2008, the wins were beginning to accumulate, including Monto Gold Buckle Challenge, Kilkivan ASH Maturity and Paradise Lagoons, along with early Campdraft success.

Then the story began to change.
It wasn't just about Mentor the performer anymore.
His progeny started stepping into the arena.

In 2011, the advertisement announced that Mentor’s oldest progeny were only four years old and already proving themselves.

By 2012, the message was “Breed a Winner & Join the Line-up”, with Mentor progeny winning and placing across Futurities and Maturities.

Then came the sales.

The performances.

The winners.

The next generation.

In 2016, the headline said it beautifully:

“Still Winning. Still Producing.”

Over the years the advertisements changed.

The photography changed.
The service fee changed.
The horses pictured alongside him changed.

Even the headlines changed…

“A Champion in the Making.”

“Breed a Winner.”

“Still Winning. Still Producing.”

“You Need a Mentor!”

And more recently…

“Get the MAN, Not the MYTH. Create your LEGEND!”

Twenty-four years later, perhaps the advertisements themselves tell the story better than we ever could.

Because Mentor’s story was never just about the stallion.

It was about what came after him.

His first foal was Colleen’s wonderful Open mare, Boonara Symphony, and from there his influence continued through generations of horses competing, winning and finding new homes through the sales rings.

And for us, that is the part that means the most — seeing horses bred at Boonara go out into the world and continue to perform for the people who bought them.

Mentor was never really the c**t Huon set out to breed.

He was the result of a change of plans and a little bit of fate.

But from the moment Huon saw him, there was something about that young c**t that made him worth giving an opportunity to.

Huon broke him in as a two-year-old and was immediately impressed by his nature, trainability and movement. His education continued in that same positive direction, leading to his early success in the Stock Horse arena, followed by Challenge and Campdraft competition.

And then came the breeding career.

24 years later, he is still here.

Still part of Boonara.
Still part of our breeding program.
Still part of our story.

So this year, we're not going to tell you what Boonara Mentor might do.

We'll let 25 advertisements from the past 24 years tell you what he has already done.
