Raised amidst the mountain cattle runs of Tumut, where annual cattle drives took a month, Phil's destiny was always with horses. He sought more than just the grit of a stockman; he sought the knowledge of a horseman. After his quest took him to America, Phil made the Cutting Futurity Finals in multiple states. In 1983, he became the first Australian to judge a major Futurity in the States.
