This is Bosche who was in for a suspicious lump removal. His mucous membranes were very pale and he had lost a lot of blood from the weeping lump. Dr Alaric recommended a blood transfusion prior to going ahead with the surgery as he was concerned with his health. German Shepherd, Sasha, was a trooper and donated 500ml of her blood which is being transfused to Bosch in the second photo ❤️

As we head into the cooler months, it's essential to ensure your pets stay happy and healthy all winter long. Here are our top winter care tips:
❄️ Warm bedding: Provide cozy and insulated bedding to keep your pets comfortable.
❄️ Indoor comfort: Limit outdoor time during extreme cold and ensure they have a warm indoor space.
❄️ Nutrition: Maintain a balanced diet to support their immune system.
❄️ Regular check-ups: Schedule a winter wellness exam to catch any seasonal health issues early.
❄️ Parasite prevention: Continue flea and tick prevention, as these pests can still be active.

Princess spent some time with the Yarrabilba crew for her pyometra surgery
🐶 What is Pyometra?
Pyometra is a severe infection of the uterus in unspayed female dogs. It typically occurs 2–8 weeks after a heat cycle, and without treatment, it can be fatal.
⚠️ Symptoms to Watch For:
Vaginal discharge (pus-like or bloody)
Swollen abdomen
Lethargy
Increased thirst and urination
Vomiting or diarrhea
Loss of appetite
Fever (not always present)
❗ Some dogs may show no discharge—this is called a closed pyometra, and it's even more dangerous as the infection is trapped inside.
🩺 Treatment: Emergency Surgery
The standard treatment is emergency spay surgery (ovariohysterectomy), along with fluids and antibiotics. Prompt action is critical—the infection can lead to sepsis, kidney failure, or death if not treated quickly.
✅ How to Prevent It?
✔️ Spay your dog—the safest and most effective prevention.
✔️ Regular vet checkups if your dog is unspayed.
✔️ Know the signs, especially after a heat cycle.
💬 Final Thoughts:
Pyometra is common in entire females, preventable, and can escalate fast. If you suspect something’s wrong, don’t wait—get to your vet immediately.
❤️ Spaying saves lives.
