🏆CHAMPIONSHIPS REPORT🏆
G’day everyone,
This weekend saw UMHA run our National Team Yarding Championship... And what a weekend it was!
With 126 teams competing for over $30,000 in cash and prizes, the competition was nothing short of amazing.
Some interesting stats that show how strong the competition was :
- 110 teams yarding cattle out of the 126 teams competing.
- 36 teams yarded their 3 nominated head in the 40 second range
- 16 teams in the 30 second range.
- 15 teams penning 9 head.
All the competitors brought their A game with 378 runs over the Friday & Saturday and competition was at its highest level.
At the end of Saturday, we were left with the Top 10 teams remaining - with less than 100th of second between our first and second place getters.
Sunday morning saw one of the best finals we have seen in recent years.
In their first runs, 8 teams yarded their 3 nominated head in under a minute which created an even higher level of competitiveness for the remaining runs.
This resulted in 22 out of the 30 finals runs yarding their 3 nominated head under 60 seconds.
For the crowd, it was an awesome display of horsemanship and cattle handling with a lot of cheering, great atmosphere and good will amongst everyone.
At the end, one team had the winning edge.. Congratulations for a very well earned win went to:
Rod Bourlet Jake Bourlet , and Shane McKenzie with 9 head 01:44.56 an incredible performance, no doubt cemented with their blistering fastest time of 00:24.36.
With these types of events, things don't get pulled together in a short time. UMHA would like to thank the hard working Sub committee working behind the scenes for months doing all long yards to make it as enjoyable as possible for everyone that comes along. Also, to the general committee that entrusted us to pull it together. Thank you.
To all our volunteers, you made the weekend a complete success. You are the backbone of the club and can’t be thanked enough.
I don't like naming anyone in particular for fear of missing someone but in this case, Paula Harrington is an absolute exception. Our new Perpetual Trophy has been created and made by Paula in what we know was an emotional and challenging journey at times. The end result has been nothing short of magnificent with the love and attention to detail beyond our wildest dreams. The timber burl being extra special having come from committee member, Bruce Campbell's property. We can't Thank Paula enough for this one.
To all of our sponsors, we just couldn’t do it without your help and support and above all else, your generosity Thank you.
Our wonderful cattle donors - It just doesn’t happen without you, it’s like turning up to the pub with no beer !!! You donate cattle without hesitation and full support. At the end of the day, to have our sport we rely on your livelihood so that we can do what we love. We live in a truly awesome community, thank you.
To our fantastic announcers, John Scales,
Nick Skuse and Michael Glasser - you fellas created the brilliant atmosphere and hype as well as kept the show on the road. You’re bloody legends, thank you.
To all our competitors, Thank you for your ongoing support. We as a club appreciate the way you have committed to our clubs strict cattle welfare policy and rode accordingly. The amount of offers to help out and your appreciation of our volunteers was humbling. Sportsmanship and mateship is so important when we go to events and is what can make a good event , a great event (just add beer😁) - you guys showed all of that.
Lastly, a very big shout out to David Cottee
who is our club photographer, putting in countless hours so that we all can have great memories to keep. He is an absolute gentleman and real talent behind the camera. Make sure you check his pics on our page.
Well, that’s it from me, (thank Christ..)
Hope to see you all back next year,
Cheers, Gibbsy
