It appears that someone must have picked one of our passionfruits and thrown it in the Food Forest. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Fortunately we found it during our Sunday working bee. We cut it open and were thrilled that it contained a lot of juicy pulp that was ready to eat! Oddly, the skin was yellow. ๐Ÿค” We're wondering whether the Panama Red vine we planted is actually a Panama Gold.

During the Food Forest working bee, we had to pull out all of the native pigface because it was so overrun with weeds. We planned to replant it, until one of our members advised us that it was actually Chilean pigface - not native pigface, which we'd assumed it was. We now plan to get some native pigface from Council that we can plant instead.

What glorious weather we had for our special Food Forest working bee blitz this afternoon. Eighteen garden members worked hard weeding, pruning, weeding, edging, weeding, digging, weeding, mulching and weeding some more. ๐Ÿ˜„ There's still a lot more work to be done, but we made a great start and it's looking so much better.

To keep our compost program running, we constantly have to empty bins to create new Feed Me bins. However, we often need a new bin before the compost has broken down enough to be used. To solve this problem, we now have two 400L bins to store the compost until it's mature enough to use.

This afternoon we planted a bed of leeks. We used a bamboo pole to make 20cm deep holes and then placed a leek seedling in each hole. We gently watered in the seedlings, but did no fill in the holes.

We have now erected a new teepee, to replace the one that blew over in a wind storm in January. In an effort to make it more durable, we've attached Rebar to the lower portion of each of the bamboo stalks, so that the Rebar, not the bamboo, is in the soil.

We've decided to try planting a couple of grape vines up the trellises on the north side of the garden. We had no luck with passionfruit there, so hopefully we'll have more success with the grapes.

Have you ever seen such massive passionfruit? We're not sure if that's a good thing or not - and will have to wait a few months, until they're ripe, to find out. ๐Ÿ˜„
