Meet Maricia

Maricia is one of our front of house receptionists 📞and likely one of the first people you’ll meet on arrival at the clinic 🏥 If any pets are in need of a cuddle, or a treat 🦴to make them feel at ease, she is the go to lady for this 🙌

Maricia started her career in the hospitality industry but eventually left this to pursue a career that involved animals 🐈‍⬛🐕, her true passion, which is how she started at Balmain Veterinary Clinic almost 6 years ago.

She has always been a big animal lover having many pets of her own. She has two adorable cats 🐱 🐱- Maui and a newer addition, Kai Kai. Kai Kai found herself as stray at our clinic but was lucky enough to be quickly adopted by Maricia as soon as she could.

Outside of work, Maricia loves to keep active and fit 🏃🏾‍♀️, travel ✈️ and spend time with her husband and son 🧑‍🧑‍🧒 and her friends .

Fun Fact❗️She recently added dog grooming ✂️ to her resume after completing her professional grooming diploma 🎓 last year.

Double the rarity, double the cuteness!
Meet Billy and Teddy — ginger sisters 🧡🧡 who came in for their dental procedures this week!

Want to know a secret about ginger cats?

They’re almost always male cats!!
This is due to the gene determining this orange colour being linked to the X chromosome 🧬
Like humans, male cats only have one X chromosome. So the “orange gene” only needs to be expressed once in male cats in order to make them orange. In contrast, female cats, have two X chromosomes 🔬so to be orange, they must have two copies of the “orange gene” (one from each parent), making it much less likely- but not impossible.

So having not one, but two ginger sisters walk through our doors? That’s pretty amazing!

Billy and Teddy were total stars during their dental procedures and are now home with shiny teeth and healthy gums.

Tortoiseshell colouring in cats is another unique colouring. These are almost always female as they must inherit one X chromosome with the “orange gene” and the other with black. Giving them their characteristic tortoiseshell pattern.

HOME SAFE ID MICROCHIP UPDATE ‼️

Some of you may have heard about a large microchipping registry that has recently gone into liquidation.

Fortunately this should have minimal impact on most NSW 🐶🐱registered pets as we routinely use the government run NSW Pet Registry. However if your pet was microchipped and registered outside NSW or from a rescue or breeder that did use HomeSafe ID, once their website 👩‍💻becomes inaccessible, there may be no way to track their chip details.

Please check that your pets are registered with any other registry aside from HomeSafe ID. At present you are still able to search on the website, so you’re able to check if that’s where your pet is registered. Once this website goes down, this will not be possible 🚫

Even if you know they are not registered with HomeSafeID this is the perfect time to check that their details are all up to date so if they do manage to get separated from you, they can easily be reunited 🤗

If you are concerned please contact our reception team 📞 so they can advise you on the best way to check your pets details are up to date ✅

Unrelated, but too adorable not to share. Teddy the golden retriever puppy in all his sunset glory 🌅🎥
