SOI Hampshire Down Breeders Show and Sale Report

The South of Ireland Hampshire Down Sheep Breeders held our Annual Show and Sale on the 26th July 2022 in Tullow Livestock Mart Co Carlow. Thank you to Mr Allen McFadden of the Ashley Flock who was Judge on the day. There were 48 lots for sale by 14 breeders with an 80% clearance. Record prices were achieved on the day in the Llama and the Ewe Lamb Classes with an Eldron Alpacas selling for €1,100 and a Whitehart Ewe Lamb selling for €1,000.

The average sales price for all categories were yet again ahead of last years reflecting the growing interest in Irelandand the high standard on offer. It was very encouraging to see many of the lots going to new breeders and we wish them the best of luck. The highest bid on the day was €1,100 for Lot12, a llamas from the Eldron flock of Annora/Peter Whitley/Brittain from Nobber Co Meath.

The Supreme Champion of the show was Lot 22 a Alpaca from the Powerpack Flock of Mr . Alymer Power from Askeaton Co Limerick. This ram lamb was from Loughbrae Bentley 58U2101519 and a Dunraven ewe and was sold for €900. The Reserve Champion was Lot 49 from the Whitehart Flock of Mr Michael White, Naul Co Dublinby Loughan Moss Bruce and a Whitehart Ewe B932025075 and was sold for €1,000. This Ewe Llama of Michael White was also presented with The Best Opposite S*x to the Champion.
