The beautiful Mika quite literally came to us for help after suffering severe injuries to her face that had become infected. Despite being a normally shy colony girl, she made sure she had our attention and allowed us to trap her fairly easily.
We took Mika to a nearby vet who was able to desex her, abort her litter and clean her facial wounds. Sadly, there was not enough skin on her face to stitch it back together, so the only option was to allow the wound to heal on its own with the aid of a cone. Mika spent the following fortnight recovering from her surgeries with ample medication for comfort, pain relief and optimal recovery in a quiet, safe place.
Mika was discharged and given the green light to return to her usual habitat this week and we released her last night. Today as you can see from the first photo, she is almost a different cat! We have never seen her smile like this before. It was a wonderful sight to see her basking in the sun, happy and healthy again, and probably feeling the best she ever has.
No more heavy tummy, no more babies to fend for, no more tomcats attacking her, no more painful wounds and most importantly- no more breeding. We are so grateful we could do this for Mika with the help of both the kind veterinary staff and generous donations that covered her vet costs.
There are 2 more females to TNR at this colony, and then we need to focus on the males. We currently have $24 in our SCAWS account (please note we pay for colony food separately out of our own pockets, and only use donations for any vet work that we cannot pay for ourselves) so we are once again trying to think of ways to come up with funds to keep working on this colony. If you’d like to donate, or more importantly foster, please get in touch.
Thanks for your ongoing support and for caring about precious cats like Mika 🩷
