Great idea saving wildlife and cats from drowning in drainage channels, canals, etc

Amsterdam is taking a compassionate step to protect its feline residents by investing €100,000 in installing tiny wooden staircases along its iconic canals 🏞️. These staircases give cats, ducks, hedgehogs, and other small creatures a way to escape if they accidentally fall into the water 💦🐾.

The idea was inspired by a similar project in Amersfoort, another Dutch city, where 300 wildlife exit ladders were installed 🪜. The results? Fewer animal drownings, fewer emergency calls, and a happier community 😊.

In 2025 alone, 19 cats drowned in Amsterdam’s canals 🐱💔, prompting outcry from pet owners and animal lovers. These staircases aim to reduce animal drownings and help the city coexist more safely with its furry and feathered residents 🐦🦔.

😿Our precious furbaby DASH is patiently waiting for bilateral eye surgery for a painful Entropion condition, quoted at about $3,500 😿 Due to the ever increasing vet costs and our run of emergencies with our rescued pets, we have been unable to book him in for this very important surgery. 😭

COLLABORATIVE RALLY FOR COMMUNITY CATS:
Raise Your Voice for Community Cats 📢
Abandoned and community cats are struggling to survive every day. They are facing hunger, injury and cruel, lethal control methods. The cats of course didn’t choose this life. Many were once cared for or had a family, then sadly left behind through no fault of their own.

Standing between them and a life of suffering are dedicated rescuers and carers, people who pour their hearts, time and resources into giving these cats safety and care. Yet too often, both the cats and the compassionate people who help them are ignored, undervalued, or vilified.

All cats, rescuers and carers deserve respect.

😽We just wanted to extend a huge thank you to our very kind supporter Vivian for her very generous and thoughtful donation of cat food and kitty litter.😽 All of our rescues live with volunteer foster families who often pay for these essential supplies out of their own pockets as all of our fundraising efforts are put towards urgent vet bills which have been astronomical this year. 😿 Sending warm cuddles and loud purrs from all of our rescued cats to Vivian and all of our kind supporters who donate supplies for our rescued pets. 🫶Please get in touch if you think you might be able to donate some supplies. 💙🩵
