We ask SO much of our dogs 🧡

We ask them to accept handling from strangers. To tolerate pats on the head. To “just deal with” being touched when they’re uncomfortable. All without ever asking if they consent.

But what if we gave them choice?

This is petting consent. Check out Scout’s new owner beautifully exercising what it looks like when we actually listen to our dogs’ communication. Watch what happens when we:

✨ Offer a pat, not force it
✨ Watch their body language
✨ Respect their “yes” AND their “no”

Notice how the dog leans IN when they want more? That’s consent. When they move away or look elsewhere? That’s also consent … to NOT be touched right now.

Consent isn’t spoiling your dog. It’s respecting them as a sentient being with preferences, boundaries and feelings. It builds trust, confidence and a relationship based on mutual respect.

Try it with your dog. You might be surprised what they tell you when we actually give them a voice 🐾

As the year gently comes to a close, Pillar of Paws will be taking a short pause over the Christmas period 🎄

This time is about rest, reset, and regulation - for dogs and humans 🧡

Christmas can be a big, busy and sometimes overwhelming time, especially for sensitive nervous systems. If your dog needs extra space, more rest, management, or lower expectations right now, that’s not a setback - it’s care 🐾

Thank you for trusting me with your dogs this year. It’s been such a privilege to support you through big feelings, small wins and everything in between!

I’ll be taking a short break from December 24 to January 12 and will be back in the new year, refreshed and ready to support you and your dogs again ✨

Until then - go gently, take breaks, and honour what feels right for your dog xx

A gentle reminder that behaviour is communication 🧡

Those who need kindness the most will often shout the loudest. Loud voices are best softened by listening and offering a calm space to step into.

When we meet anger, rage, frustration, aggression with the same response. We are seeking revenge not offering guidance.

Feeling lucky to have spent some time with the gorgeous Odin for his very first Fitness & Conditioning session 🧡 We focused on helping to support his beautiful body as he heads into his golden years.

It means so much to be part of a team that truly values proactive care and helping our dogs feel their best at every stage of life 🐾

Thank you Howling Success Dog Training and Behaviour for the kind words and for trusting me with your special boy ✨

here! 🥳 I had the best time with Demi from Pillar of Paws yesterday for my first Fitness and Conditioning session.

Mum says she still cannot believe her little baby boy is turning 7 next year 🥺

One of the things Mum and Demi talked about was not simply accepting that getting older means I’ll be stiff and sore (even if it eventually does happen to us all). But to think about what we can do to support my exceptionally gorgeous Rottie body as I start to move into old age 🥰

So, Demi set us up with some basic stretches and fun conditioning exercises then finished with a nice freework session.

We both really enjoyed the consult and couldn’t recommend Demi more if you have a dog who is recovering from an injury, is building muscle for sport or general strength or if you’re like my Mum and looking to do everything possible to support your dog into old age 🥰
