Have you noticed, when your dog is about to p**p, he starts circling a spot before actually doing his business? This isn’t just for fun. As crazy as it may sound, dogs prefer to do their business in a north-south alignment with the Earth’s magnetic field. When going to the toilet, they act like a compass. Isn’t that crazy?!

It is a well-known saying that dogs can smell fear. But that isn’t the only thing that they can smell – dogs can smell a wide array of emotions, including happiness, sadness and fear. Dogs then adapt to the emotions that they have smelt – if you’re happy, your dog may run around and bark, paying with you, if you’re sad, your dog will quickly snuggle up with you and sit quietly.

Dogs move their tails a lot. All these movements show their emotions. A loose wag shows that the dog is relaxed and content. Quicker wags with hip movements show that the dog is happy or greeting a loved one. Tail up – your dog is confident or aggressive, tail down and between legs – your dog is fearful or submissive.

Many love being licked on the face by their dog – after all, they must love me so much! As pups, dogs lick to show affection or to ask for food. This doesn’t have to be humans, they do it to their mothers as well. Once they grow, dogs lick to show submission to an authority. And of course to ask for food or affection.
