❌❌IMPORTANT INFORMATION ❌❌

NO BIRDS IN CLINIC ‼️‼️

🐦 Important Bird Flu (H5N1) Update 🐦

With cases of avian influenza (bird flu) continuing to be monitored, we’d like to remind our community to help keep people, pets and wildlife safe.

If you find a sick, injured or deceased wild bird:
❌ Do not touch or handle it.
👧 Keep children and pets well away from the bird.
📍 If you notice multiple sick or dead birds in one area, record the location and report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

🐦 Pet bird owners:
Keep birds indoors where possible and prevent contact with wild birds. If your bird is unwell (showing signs such as fluffed feathers, lethargy, breathing changes, diarrhoea or weakness), please call the clinic first for advice before bringing them in.

⚠️ Please do not bring wild birds directly into the clinic. If you have concerns about an injured wild bird or a sick pet bird, contact us by phone so we can guide you on the safest next steps while following appropriate biosecurity measures.

Thank you for helping protect our community, our pets and our local wildlife. 💙

⚠️PYOMETRA⚠️
Pyometra is a serious infection of the uterus that commonly affects entire female dogs & cats (not de-sexed), usually after a season/heat cycle. It can become life-threatening very quickly if left untreated.

🐾 Signs to watch for:
• Drinking more water than normal
• Increased urination
• Lethargic
• Loss of appetite
• Vomiting
• Swollen abdomen
• Vaginal discharge (not always present!)

🚨 Important: Some female develop a “closed pyometra”, meaning there is NO discharge visible, making it harder to spot, but they can become critically unwell very quickly.
Treatment often requires urgent surgery (desexing/spaying) and intensive veterinary care.

💛 The good news!! Pyometra is preventable through desexing your pet.

📞 Phone the clinic to have a chat & book in your pet for desexing today!!

Early treatment & prevention can save lives!

🐾 Osteoarthritis 🐾
Cold weather and reduced activity during winter can make signs of arthritis more noticeable in dogs. You may see;

👉 Stiffness, especially in the morning and/or resting
👉 Slower to get up or lie down
👉 Limping or favouring a leg
👉 Reluctance to jump, climb stairs or go for walks
👉 Sleeping more or seeming grumpy when touched
👉 Slipping more on hard floors

Things that can help during winter
✔️ Keep them warm & dry
✔️ Gentle daily exercises to keep joints moving
✔️ Soft, supportive bedding
✔️ Maintain a healthy weight
✔️ Joint supplements
✔️ Pain relief or arthritis medication prescribed by the vet

If symptoms are worsening, it's worth booking a vet check, as there are many options now to help keep arthritic dogs comfortable.
