We did not plan to deliver a puppy on the side of the motorway. 🚗
Late that night, something in me said it was time to call the emergency vet. I felt that Ruby was taking too long to birth her first puppy and I wasn’t taking any chances with our girl. So I made the call, woke my son up to help me, and my daughter and I carefully carried Ruby out to the car and we set off into the dark.
Ten minutes into the drive, Ruby let out an almighty yelp from the back seat. (I was with her on the backseat)
My heart stopped. We pulled straight over onto the side of the motorway, turned on the light, and there in the backseat of my car was the answer. A tiny puppy, already here. Our little orange collar baby had made her grand entrance roadside, on the way to the vet, completely on her own terms. 💛
I called the emergency vet straight back, we turned the car around, and we brought our girl home.
And then, through the rest of that long and beautiful night, Ruby went on to birth another nine.
Ten puppies. One unforgettable night. One absolutely extraordinary mama who knew exactly what she was doing all along, motorway detour and all.
Mama and all ten babies are safe, warm, and thriving. 🐾
Some entrances you just never forget. ✨
