Tiny 610 gram Sonny was found on the side of a road by a lovely couple, on a cold rainy day, who quickly wrapped him in a towel and kept him warm in their car.

KRI’s rescuers arrived to find a female koala extremely high in a tree with a male koala half way down. There was no way to reach the female (presumably mum) and due to lightning it was also too risky to be holding up metal poles or for the MFS to help.

Over the next 4/5 days, different rescuers continued to return with attempts to bring mum down, however sadly Sonny was unable to be reunited with her.

Sonny has since been in care with a specialised joey carer, had a thorough assessment at and is doing very well. He will be given every chance possible to continue doing well and hopefully we have many updates to look forward too 🐨

Following the earlier post today where a young male koala ran out of the carrier at high speed and headed straight toward his chosen tree … now we meet Ciara whose decision on which tree to chose upon release was very different.

KRI received a call, one very wet evening, when a home owner found Ciara in a pine tree in their driveway. They quickly put their dog inside and called for assistance. While our rescuers were bringing Ciara down from the pine tree they noticed a bulge in her pouch - she was carrying a joey! They were both safely placed in a carrier and relocated to a nearby reserve with much better habitat.

Upon release, Ciara ran out of the carrier toward a tree before changing her mind and heading to another, before changing her mind again and heading to another. This happened quite a few times before she ran out of trees to choose from so she turned around and headed back where she finally made a decision and climbed up one she had previously rejected.

Maybe she was looking for another Pine Tree!!! Stay safe and look after your precious joey
