Anna and Kristoff’s miracle story has been shared today with an aim to spread information about what we can do to help koalas and dogs safely live together. Please enjoys these 2 news stories published by 7 News today.

And below are some reminders of what we can all do to assist with keeping koalas and dogs safe:-

* Keeps dogs inside or in an enclosed outside area at night
* Respond quickly to any unusual dog disturbances
* Be aware of koala active times
* Keep dogs on leads in known koala areas
* Check trees/areas for koalas before letting dogs outside
* Teach dogs good recall skills
* If possible contain an attacked koala under a weighted laundry basket
* Contact KOALA RESCUE Inc immediately with any concerns for a koala

This gorgeous little girl, named Carina, was retrieved by a KRI rescuer, after a distressed caller rang the Hotline at 1:15am to report that he had hit a koala who was stuck on his car tyre. As soon as the caller heard his car hit something, he immediately stopped to check and found Carina. He called KRI straight away for help.

Carina is 4.7kg (approx 18 months) and would have only very recently separated from her mums protection and was sitting in the middle of the road.

Carina was given a quick checkover and found to have no major injuries. She was taken to AKAWC for full assessment later that morning and while free from any serious injuries she was diagnosed with pneumonia and is now in care receiving warmth, love and treatment. If Carina hadn’t been hit by a car and the driver hadn’t called KRI and she hadn’t gone to AKAWC - she wouldn’t now be safe and receiving treatment.

Keep following for further updates on young Carina 🧡🐨

Have you heard the amazing noises of koalas bellowing? Why do they do this?

Koalas have a fascinating vocal adaptation known as velar vocal folds - a rare structure located in the soft palate, just outside the larynx. This unique feature allows them to produce incredibly low-frequency mating calls, unlike any other land mammal. While both males and females possess these folds, they are far more developed in males. This enables males to emit deep, resonant bellows that serve two important purposes: to signal their presence to rival males and to attract females that are in oestrus and ready to mate.

Turn the volume up, watch and listen at the 3 videos here - the first two show mature kaolas (Jarvis & Willie) showing off their advanced bellowing skills. The final video shows young koala Waru practising his newly discovered bellowing capabilities - he will practice regularly until he perfects this.

We have unfortunately seen a recent increase in reports of koalas being attacked by dogs. Sadly today two of our rescuers went out to a koala mum and joey who had been attacked by multiple dogs. The joey (approximately 6 months old) received fatal injuries and didn’t survive, while mum is currently at receiving extremely close monitoring and treatment over the next few days. Fingers crossed she survives.

Please take a moment to read our fact sheet which shares some important reminders on how we can all work together to help protect both koalas and dogs from harm.

The members of KOALA RESCUE Inc take every opportunity that presents to chat with members of the public about koalas. Regularly at rescues people are interested in what’s happening, the reason why the koala is being retrieved, what may be wrong with the koala, where the koala will go once retrieved and what possibly might happen. Any chance to educate is always a positive.

Seeing young children show an interest in learning about koalas is so heartening, as it shows a sense of curiosity, compassion, and environmental awareness from an early age. When children ask questions about koalas, it sparks meaningful conversations and learning opportunities and can inspire future generations of wildlife advocates and similar.

This group of kids were so excited to get involved with our rescuer and help with a relocation of Aggie into a safer area. Fingers crossed we have some future koala warriors here!

Beautiful Boy Barney has been in care with KOALA RESCUE Inc for 2 months. During his stay, he has overcome multiple health issues including having a canine tooth removed due to an abscess and being treated for both Chlamydia and Bloat which he thankfully responded too positively.

Throughout his stay in care, Barney showed himself to be a gentle giant who loved his daily fresh leaf so much that he was rarely seen without having leaves hanging out of his mouth or physically surrounding himself in them!

Barney has been given a clean bill of health from and is now ready to be released back into the wild. Keep an eye out over the next week to see this beautiful boys release.

Sakura and Dave were invited to attend the this morning for a very special announcement, alongside Environment Minister Susan Close and MP . The State Government has announced that they will be financially supporting the Centre over the next 4 years.

Both Sakura and Dave have benefited from extensive vet assessments and follow up appointments at the Centre, and we are so happy and relieved to know that it will now be possible for the Centre to be able to continue providing services for koalas and other wildlife.

As well as this a further large amount of money is being provided to support the volunteer wildlife rescue and rehabilitation sector.

This funding represents the first time that the SA Government has provided financial assistance to the volunteer wildlife sector and it is a much needed contribution to both the Centre and to wildlife rescue organisations.

Congratulations and Huge Thanks to everyone who helped to make this happen 🐨🧡

The lovely Dianne from St Peters Lutheran Church has twice now invited KOALA RESCUE Inc (KRI) to have a stall at their Twilight Market free of charge.

These generous opportunities have given our KRI member to speak with many members of the public, at the markets, about what KRI does as well as having conversations about general issues that koalas face and things that can be done to help them.

While at the markets, KRI have been lucky enough to have had some wonderful financial donations which have all gone toward items needed for the koalas to be continued to be rescued and cared for.

Thank You to Every Single One of You 🐨💚

National Volunteer Week is celebrated this year from May 19th to May 25th. It is aimed at showcasing the contribution of volunteers within Australian communities, and showing how vital volunteers are to Australia’s wellbeing.

We are taking the opportunity to thank all volunteers everywhere - from volunteering within large organisations to informally volunteering to others in communities in times of need … and everything in between.

And we are especially thanking all those that have previously, and currently, volunteered within KOALA RESCUE Inc (KRI). There are a wide variety of roles involved in an animal rescue and rehabilitation group like KRI and our amazing volunteers endlessly give their time, energy and heart all working toward the care and conservation of koalas.

Thank You to Every Single One of You 🐨🧡

Yoshi came into care at KOALA RESCUE Inc as a tiny joey weighing 610 grams. He had been found with his mum Stacey who unfortunately had facial injuries that were so severe she was unable to eat and therefore was given peace and euthanised.

7 1/2 months later and big boy Yoshi, weighing 5kg, was successfully released back into the wild. Initially Yoshi headed to a pretty dry looking tree - with the Adelaide drought this is a problem in so many places at the moment - however with some redirecting from his carers he was able to find a much better tree to climb.

Yoshi looked very comfortable as he climbed and looked back at his carers below saying his goodbyes.

Stay Safe out there Young Yoshi 🧡
