WANTED!!!

RECIPIENT MARES FOR EMBRYO TRANSFER PROGRAM

Do you have a mare/mares sitting in the paddock not being used? Perhaps a retired mare that is not going to be bred, or maybe there is a need to reduce numbers?

Equivet Breeding Centre provides an Embryo Transfer program for clients. This process involves flushing a fertilised embryo from a donor mare & transferring into a recipient. The recipient carries the pregnancy & rears the foal - this allows the donor mare to remain in competition, and produce progeny at the same time.

This season we have an increased number of bookings for Embryo Transfer and urgently need to expand our Recipient herd.

Please contact Equivet Breeding Centre if you have or know of any suitable mares that meet the following criteria.
Mares must be:
- Young (preferably under the age of 10)
- Fertile & reproductively sound
- Healthy & sound in themselves, with good feet
- Easy to catch & handle

Please Phone: 07 4691 0322 or Email: [email protected]

Our district vet in Tamworth was called out to investigate the death of 10 out of 55 adult angus cows on an agistment block last week.

The cattle were found dead in the paddock. A paddock walk to look at the environment they were in, showed the presence of a large amount of green cestrum that had been noticeably eaten. A post mortem examination revealed swollen, damaged livers – confirming the diagnosis of green cestrum poisoning.

It is unclear what made the cattle eat the cestrum, when it had been present in the paddock along with the cattle for 3 months – perhaps the cooler weather made them more hungry, or the frosted grass was less palatable.

Further information on Green cestrum can be found at the link below – remember that if you have unexpected stock deaths, always call your veterinarian so that we can investigate.
