✨ The Lord and Her Lump ✨
Meet Jesus, an 8-year-old female Central Bearded Dragon, who recently visited Dr Rami at WellPet St Clair Animal Hospital after her owner noticed a lump on her front left leg that was gradually increasing in size. Over time, the lump began affecting her mobility, prompting further investigation.
Jesus had previously undergone a foot amputation when she was younger, so it was important to determine whether the lump involved any remaining bone. Dr Rami recommended X-rays and blood tests, which fortunately showed no evidence of bone or organ involvement. 🩺
Given the progressive growth of the mass, ruling out cancer was the next priority. A fine needle biopsy was performed and submitted to a veterinary pathologist. While the results were inconclusive, some concerning cells were identified, and complete surgical removal with further testing was recommended.
Thanks to her vigilant owner, Jesus returned for surgery to have the mass removed under general anaesthesia. The procedure was successful, and she recovered comfortably in the warm care of Nurse Kaytlin. ❤️
Histopathology revealed that the mass was a rare cancer known as a mucinous melanophoroma—a tumour arising from pigment-producing cells within the skin. Thankfully, there was no evidence of spread, highlighting the importance of early detection and intervention.
One month later, Jesus returned for her recheck appointment, and what a difference! Her owner reported that she was moving much more comfortably and had returned to her normal, happy self. We couldn’t agree more—she was absolutely glowing with a holy glow💛
We absolutely love sharing patient success stories with you, thank you to Jesus dedicated owner and Dr Rami for all your care 💙
