JRL STUD, Breeding and training quality cutting horses and Brahman cattle

What a wonderful few weeks it has been! A very enjoyable and successful Victorian Futurity, taking out the Open Derby and Open Futurity- huge thanks to Tri Star for turning on such a great event. We were very honoured to be part of the bridal party to see 2 of our best friends get hitched- congratulations Ailee and Trav, then raced across to Brahman Week for a sale we’ll never forget. We are humbled beyond words. Thank you to everyone who popped in to say hi and look at the bulls. Thank you to all of our successful purchasers and underbidders, and thanks to the huge help team behind the scenes, we’d be lost with out you.
While our average may have been very strong, it was pleasing to see buyers still able to get quite a few of our draft at good value buying.
To the Bishop Family, GARGLEN BRAHMANS, purchasers of JRL BLOCKOUT, we are honoured you thought as much of him as we did, he’s going to a mighty herd of cows, we can’t wait to see what you do with him.
We are back home, bulls are out and on the job, with plenty of new additions- in the horse and beef department. NUTRIEN and Big Country are in preparation. We’ll look forward to catching up again for that.

ROCKHAMPTON BRAHMAN WEEK 2026.
Video of the bulls for this year. They’ll remain in the paddock, on grass until sale day, only ever supplemented hay and pellet, not over done. We’ll have dam raw DCI data available sale day, real, raw 200, 400, 600 day growth figures on the sale bulls, as well as carcass data on a lot of our popular sires. While we don’t own the rights to the music, we felt it fitting to use something from the late, great Dolly Parton. We’re aware it’s footy finals time, figured we’d get the video done and dusted before the game- the Dolphins! Look forward to catching everyone in Gracemere

ROCKHAMPTON BRAHMAN WEEK 2026!
The sale is creeping up very quickly, we’re well into our photos, and videos will be dropped shortly. Fertility tests aren’t too far away. Bulls will be done for both Morphology and Motility. They are still running in the paddock, and only pellet and hay assisted. We’re looking forward to catching up with everyone very soon!

Huge thank you to both the Nebo cutting Horse Club and Rocky Cutting Horse Club for hosting 2 great shows over the past couple of weeks. Great cattle and hospitality! If you haven’t had a chance to come to either show, we strongly suggest you mark it in your calendar for next year! We’ve returned home and having a great time on the 2028 cutting prospects. Brahman Week bulls are starting to take shape, hard to believe we’re less than 8 weeks from sale day…

A very belated post, but there was a bit of dust to be settled after such a whirlwind Futurity! What a show it was. We just wanted to say a huge thank you to A LOT of people and sponsors that make such a magical night even possible. To the NCHA, well done under testing times to host one of the biggest Futurity’s ever, your preparation, advertising, updates and webcast was outstanding and allowed a huge following to watch along and enjoy. Thank you to cattle donors and transporters throughout the event- often many unsung hero’s amongst you. Our huge help team around the pen- Jessie, Vick, Geoff and Trish & Cambo and to the awesome guys who faithfully show up for every run in the pen- Matt Oakley, Steve Smith, Mark Buttsworth and Hugh Miles, we’d be lost without you all.
To all of our valued clients, who we also get to call our great friends, thank you for entrusting us with your horses.
Sponsors Tuffrock and Prydes EasiFeed
thanks for keeping them looking and feeling great.
A very special thank you needs to go out to our vet and friend Phil Manchon. Your tireless work around the clock during the Futurity was a superhuman effort. We appreciate you more than you’d ever know.
Congratulations Jamie and Sarah Inglis on your first Futurity champion!
It was pretty special to finish 3rd in a great line up of open horses on our own ‘Speaking’ who we also bred, being out of Slithering’.
We were straight back into next years line up when we got home, and also enjoying watching Mitch Lynham put the 2028 prospects through their paces. NUTRIEN sale horses are getting sorted as are the Brahman Week bulls, so plenty going on. Thanks again to everyone who wished us well, watched, cheered and congratulated us, we can’t wait for next year, and hopefully will catch up again soon!

Big shout out to Retreat Creek Working Horse Club for hosting a great show over the weekend. Great surface, great cattle and great food (thanks Darrin and Ronda!)
Hard Spinning Cash gets dusted off from retirement every now and then, Boyd puts his boots on even less, and they both managed to pull a clean run off. He’s done all the work on her over the last 12 months which made it all the more rewarding. He had the help and took on some great advice from a few of the superstars in the sport- thank you. And what was even greater to see, was Boyd pulling her boots off afterwards, all by himself, hold her head in his arms and whisper something to her in her ear, when asked afterwards what he said: “I told her thank you and I’m so proud of her” A real reminder what it’s all about.
Our preparations for the Futurity are almost done, and we’ll look forward to catching up in a few weeks!

The old legend himself, Carinya Winston, finally gets his turn to stand in with the girls. We’ve used the young guns in Carawah Mayweather ‘Floyd’ and JRL Sir Fredrick quite heavily this year, and also have our first crop of ‘Black Jack’ calves furnishing out very nicely from our AI work last year. We must say, it is nice to see them enjoying such a great season after a fair few tough, dry ones.

Wow! What a ride this last few weeks have been…from Charters Towers to Tamworth and back, bulls, horses, heifers, genetics in the tank- all selling inside a few days of one another. It’s a massive job that doesn’t happen without a small army. We’d firstly like to sincerely thank all buyers and underbidders, NUTRIEN Equine and Qld Rural.
We were very humbled this year to be inducted into the vendors hall of fame, which was a great honour we weren’t expecting. We couldn’t help but feel this award is as much the new owners of the 30 horses we’ve sold to get there, as it is ours. Thank you is all we can say.
We were extremely proud to see 3 out of the 4 mares we sold in 2025 back at the Classic and all performed in an outstanding manner, (of course piloted by some great hands!) Mac, Huon and Rhys- great job on the girls- they don’t perform like that without the great program you all have.
Particular congratulations to Mac and Gayle, running a massive 91 on A Sandie Blonde in the Classic and to Huon Smith on behalf of Mick and Hayley Hughes winning the wet work section of the Challenge on Metallic Clover.
Thank you to the huge help team we required to get everything over the line- Brit, Josie, Jessie, Vic, Chase, Trish.
Thanks also to our valued sponsors Prydes Easi Feed and Tuffrock

Best of luck and thank you to Mick, Hayley and Courto and also to the Angus family with your new purchases.
We’re already preparing next years crop and can’t wait to head back next year with them!

We unfortunately didn’t get to get much done in the preworks yesterday on lot 305, LADY ISABELLA, but we thought we’d post a video of her work on the flag today. Look for her to sell Friday afternoon!
