This darling girl was given a death sentence yesterday. She was in for de-sexing and tested positive to FeLV, Feline Leukemia. Vets suggested that we euthanised her.
We decided to go ahead with her vet work and give her as many years as possible in a loving home. I mean, just look at how sweet she is and right now, she is super healthy. She shows no signs of any illness and she may not for many years or ever.
There is the slimmest chance that she has thrown a false positive on the in house snap test. We have sent samples for further PCR lab testing, an expensive exercise but she is worth the gamble.
After her rescue, we decided to name her Bibette (because of her impressive bib). She was trapped as a stray but had obviously been someones pet once. She is only about 12-18 months old and shows signs that she has had a litter of kittens.
Feline Leukemia, FeLV is not a highly contagious virus, and transmission generally requires a prolonged period of close contact between infected and susceptible cats.
