Pooches by Porada

Pooches by Porada Certified Pet Aesthetician. Multi-award winning pet stylist specialising in Pet Grooms. Groomer Training & Upskilling. Quality products & Service!

Fully insured for all services. Dogs should be groomed regularly to help avoid painful matting, detect skin changes and to keep them comfortable. A regularly groomed dog is familiar with the process and does not find it traumatic or stressful, whereas dogs that are shaved off once or twice a year are expecting it to be an uncomfortable and scary experience. Where possible, I strongly recommend my

clients book on a minimum 6 weekly recurring schedule to avoid disappointment trying to get your desired day/time. Recurring bookings can be made of multiple options, for example;
2 weekly - bath & dry, bath & dry, full groom.
3 weekly - tidy up, full groom
4/6 weekly - full groom

What an amazing 2 days!
For everyone waiting for the final product. We have a Carebear! Wish bear! Couldnt be more happy with how he turned out and he behaved like a champ!
We placed 2nd which blew me away!
Also managed a 2nd with my effort with Shirley the Griffon!
And lastly a 3rd with my 1st attempt at an Irish Setter!

Thanks Charlie Buza , Rebecca Berman , Kelly Cee , Caroline Louise for trusting me with your precious dogs (and for the early mornings or having me borrow them for sleep overs).
Thanks Ausgroom for an awesome comp ( Jo Marsden ). And to the judges for all your much appreciated time and critiques, really very grateful!
Thanks Refuresh, Hyponic Australia and Kenchii for the super generous prizes!!!
Thanks Iv San Bernard - Australia for providing awesome products that the dogs get pampered with prior to the comp.
And thanks to anyone else I forgot to mention who has made it such a fun event!

Is this the time of year your dog starts to itch?? Optimal skin health is key to a comfortable dog!
Reach out and see how I can help improve your pups comfort levels!

Get ahead of potential problems and try a super hydrating, anti itch spa session! Designed specifically for your individual dog. Gentle and more natural approach without harsh chemicals.

Dry skin is itchy skin! Dry skin allows nasty things to take hold and cause skin to become angry red, ooey and gooey and stinky, and even more itchy!

And yes, dogs CAN be booked for a simple bath and dry using various products with the aim to reduce and stop itching.

Remember for ideal skin health, I recommend a bath that includes conditoner, in quality products. As a skin cycle is roughly 21 days, bathing around this sort of timing means dead skin and build up is removed and keeps the health of the skin at its best!
If done the right way, bathing even once a week should have no negative impact on your dogs skin!
Its when a dogs skin is constantly stripped and never nourished that we begin to see the skin barrier break down and problems arise!

Ask what options I could provide, instead of your dogs usual shampoo and conditioner (yes I do use amazing products as my norm, but I also have very specific, targeted products for helping sooth those annoying little skin troubles)!
*skin restoration program for skin problems
*deeply hydrating options for dry skin
*OZONE SPA add on for antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant and super deep cleansing among many benefits.
*take home products for skin and coat hydration including sprays and balms.

Ear cleaning!!!
I often get asked what I use.
IvSanBernard ear cleaner.
Why?
While still being gentle on the skin, it has the added therapeutic benefits of the highest grade Jojoba oil, cotton seed oil and Avocado oils.
What benefits you may ask? These oils have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, contain antioxidants and vitamin E, and are deeply moisturizing to help sooth dry and itchy skin.
It doesn't contain alcohol so is not going to cause that itchy dry feeling that skin gets when dried out.

Used regularly this works amazing at reducing the occurrence of ear troubles.
Yes, we all know it can be a seemingly never ending battle with some dogs and their ears, but as with the rest of your dogs skin, if it is cared for correctly it certainly helps protect from nasties taking hold!
Bacteria is always present on even healthy skin, all it takes is a little dysfunction to the skin barrier and the nasties seize the opportunity to take hold and cause havoc!
Ear canals are skin too and as always prevention is better than cure!!

Stock is usually available in the salon.

Appointments for the year!
Yes, can you believe I'm already mentioning it?
It's time to get your bookings in between now and Christmas if you haven't already done so!
Lots of you have, so please dont leave it till the last minute as this year is a bit different....

This year, I am taking off to have Xmas with family in Perth, so I will be away from December 22nd until the 14th January! 3 weeks! Not just the week between. 🙈
This means some of you may need to stretch out a groom or come a bit earlier.

Some have already been made aware, but my timings have had to change due to the need to do a trip to bus stops for school runs now, so this means a little less flexibility with timings offered. But we do what we have to do right!? 😊

Louise will be here from January 3rd and willing to help if anyone needs to be seen while I am away.

Touch base if you want me to book your next few now!

I want to make a little point! For all us dog groomers.
I had a massive wake up call with my accountant this year. Hence my big price increase that's coming up!
I had tried to ignore price increases as I felt bad passing this on to my awesome clients.
I want to be affordable. I dont want dogs to miss out. I feel bad charging my worth.
Reality....owning a dog is a privilege, not a right! We are paid to do a job others cant do!
In my case, and I do hate to sound stuck up, but, I am GOOD at what I do. I am trained and certified beyond most groomers. My resume sits at the highest end of what someone would be offered in the grooming workplace. I am management/trainer/specialist.

And guess what? After expenses, I am earning less than $1000 a week now. I want embarrass myself with the exact amount. Working a 38- 40hour week!

So yes, I fall into that small business earning less than minimum wage.
So yes, my prices ARE increasing and I am sorry if this stings. But would YOU be working so hard in YOUR job for the same pay...especially if you had experience and qualifications that meant you're actually worth being paid in the highest bracket of that job category?

Groomers charge your worth! PLEASE stop devaluing what we do. And owners who think to whinge at your groomers costs....please realise theres so many hidden expenses for small businesses.....and learn to groom yourself if you cant afford it... but expect to pay for that hard earned education. (HAPPY to teach you, its also what I do).

I really appreciate the understanding of 90 something percent of my clients.
This industry is struggling with burnout and is regularly treated very poorly by clients (not me, I am eternally grateful for mine for being so awesome).

Just know..high prices dont mean youre being ripped off....theres so much more to a groomers job than you think and we work ourselves to the ground because we love the job and the dogs!

What a weekend!
Friday saw myself, Louise from Boutique Dog Spa By Lou, and Wendy from Rad Pet Services head on down to Coffs for The Pup Cup Dog Grooming Competition

3 adults and 6 dogs in a cabin. Prepping dogs at 3 am and getting into bed at 730/8 and early again sunday for a big day on our feet then with a drive home arriving at 945pm!

Couldnt be more proud and happy of my amazing friends and their efforts.

The event was awesome! Such cool stalls and food vans. The prizes were VERY very generous!

I placed 3rd using a lovely dog I met at 6am before grooming at 8am. Thank you Petway Petcare for that prize! Thanks Jazz's Dog Grooming for allowing me to borrow her.
Then I got a hairy beast encouragement award for beautiful Duke. Which was an amazing dryer supplied by Jovy Lee Grooming Workshop. Cant wait to try it out.
Thanks Little Woof Boutique for the goodies! Super excited about that adjustable loop by the way.

Sunday I almost completed the griffon I met only on friday....Mavis who had been staying was not useable due to lack of coat growth. We didnt place but was an awesome experience.
I was awarded The Oharna award for encouragement with my hand stripping. I nearly cried. Its beautiful...thank you Alicia from Beauty and Beast Dog Grooming .

I got to have a go grooming a hairy Saluki...didnt have time to finish him but it was an honour to have a play with a breed I have admired for many years. Thank you Nicole from Skyzar Grooming Salon for allowing me to use Justin. Sorry you still have some grooming to do on him 🤣

Thanks to the lovely ladies for keeping Duke company while I was stuck in the ring.
To all the judges and organisers thank you!
Pup cup team....thank you!
