Follow up on yesterday’s post…

🚨 A single mum with two kids earning just over $46,000 will be kicked out of her social housing under the LNP’s new review.

David Crisafulli’s out-of-touch Housing Minister, Sam O’Connor, wants to apply income thresholds set more than 20 years ago.

💸 Under their plan:

A couple earning more than $39,000 combined will be turfed.

A family of five earning over $58,300? Out on the street.

This isn’t how you fix a housing crisis.
You don’t solve homelessness by kicking working families out of their homes.

It’s heartless.
It’s outdated.
It’s cruel.

Queenslanders deserve better. 🏠

Put aside the 2 cases in the beginning of article and go to the bottom figures. The first 2 examples are obviously rorting the system. Let’s look at the bigger, more concerning, picture.

The Queensland income limits in comparison to the rest of Australia are extremely low. This ‘brutal’ decision by Sam O’Connor, under the leadership of David Crisafulli, will see vulnerable families and individuals thrown into disadvantage, families will have to find work in other suburbs, children will have to move schools, and will leave some without a home.

The private rental market isn’t affordable to those on low incomes. Families and individuals shouldn’t be forced out of social housing into vulnerability with these low thresholds. We’re going to see a rise in homelessness.
This isn’t right.

The state government claims there are some recipients earning well above the income limit that determines who is eligible for social housing.
