The 1st of August is the universal birthday for horses.

The tradition of celebrating horses birthdays on the 1st of August in the southern hemisphere has its roots in the breeding and racing industries. The date of 1st August was chosen when breeding practices were less controlled and more dependent on natural cycles. This date was chosen to standardize the age of horses for racing and other competitive events.

We love our horses here at The Ballarat Country Vets so will take any excuse to celebrate them!
