For all my goat newbies out there :)
Some wise words from LaFamilila

What do you ask when searching for a goat, from a breeder and to yourself. No matter what breed, all questions apply. These are a few I go by, any other suggestions?

FROM A BREEDER
- Is the goat registered?
- Are both parents registered?
- Ask to sight papers or look on Premium Breed, depending on association.
- Look on Premium Breed for genetics, parents/grand parents etc
- Ask for genetic make up- Aussie mini, Nigerian Dwarf, Nubian cross Pygmy. Goats are crossed with other breeds unless a fullblood.
- Ask for up to date photos. Photos of parents to determine sizes. Video’s or video calls.
- Ask about prior kidding’s and health of the doe. Has it been bred too often, issues birthing or udder issues?
- Ask about faults and ask for photos of udder or sc***um, especially on mature stock.
- Ask about the goats temperament. Is it a jumper?
- Up to date with vaccinations? Last drench? Medical history
- Nutrition, health, feed regimen
- Testing, dna, and other important tests you may require
- no reptile breeder will sell you one goat to accompany your dog or other pet. They are a herd animal and should be sold in pairs.

FOR YOURSELF
- What are your plans for the goat? Pet, showing, breeder
- Have you got a PIC? Is your property fenced with appropriate shelters?
- Are you a member of an association? You can purchase off anyone and transfer into your chosen association
- What are your goals? They will determine which studs to contact for stock….coat patterns, standards etc -Are you breeding for stud improvements or pets?
- Do you want to breed up creating your own lines?
- Do you have vet access nearby? Is your vet willing to deal with goats?
- Are you going to disbudded your kids? Does your vet do it?

Very excited for the upcoming Kidding season, to continue on with the promising lines I have been working on.

Expressions of interest are welcomed for Kids due in the spring. Some Does and Bucks may also be available.

Thankyou to Caity my right hand gal, Coorie Creek Miniature Goat Stud for helping with photos and organising the show, also Tracey, Murray and Sandy, it was a lovely, relaxed day enjoying our goats in good company.

For your consideration:

3 does all backed by strong and successful lines. Would suit new breeder looking to add strong genetics to their stud, get started in the show ring or as pets. Could potentially do a starter package with a Buck included.

Lily is a very quiet and friendly little doe who has been to a few shows and more recently kidded a beautiful doe that I am retaining.

Watermelon would be an asset to someone looking for those old good lines (Levi - Splinter etc) she isn’t a showy type but has bred on a lovely doe that I am retaining to show in the future. Would be available upon weaning (two months)

Coorie Creek Just Juliette
Riverstone Shaggy x Kokoda Just Jossi
This one is a hard one. Juliette is an absolute clown and has such a bright future, I have simply changed my breeding plans and I am keeping her half sister instead. Juliette has been running with Mallee Rise Whynot so potentially in kid for a May kidding

Last week Lylah took her baby Elsa to kinder for show and tell, she was so proud to show off her favourite baby goatie to all of her friends. Elsa was of course all for the extra attention.

Successful day for team Tahdah at the Camperdown Show.

~ Silverfern TJ Perenara - Champion Adult Buck also showing his incredible temperament by helping Caity win her junior handler's class.

~ Benclue Granite - Reserve Junior Doe

~Tahdah Dipsy - Champion Kid Buck, Also followed Lylah around all day and won a medal in her handler class too.

~ Benclue Gravedigger - Second place Junior Buck

~ Tahdah Magpie - Second place in hindquarters class
