Everyone talks about dog-friendly holidays.
But not enough people talk about dog-centred holidays.
And trust me…there’s a difference.
For us, it’s not about ticking off every beach, café, lookout or “must-do” spot for the gram.
It’s about making sure Milo & Poppy actually enjoy the trip… not just survive it while we drag them around for content.
French Bulldogs don’t regulate heat properly.
Humidity? Rude.
New environments? Exciting… yet super exhausting.
So we plan differently. We do it our way.
We choose quiet foreshores with actual shade.
We keep days intentionally short - because overexertion isn’t a flex.
We schedule rest days. Yes, on purpose.
We don’t change their food - consistency is key!
We pack their beds so the caravan still smells like “home,” not chaos.
Sniffing new environments is enrichment - it lowers heart rate, builds confidence, and when paired with simply sitting waterside doing absolutely nothing…it lets them regulate instead of spiralling into overstimulation.
No packed boardwalks.
No midday madness.
No pushing them past their limits for “the shot.” (Although, when there’s a winner location, who could simply resist?!)
…Just sandy paws.
Neutral nervous systems.
Dogs that actually look and feel relaxed.
Because a good holiday isn’t about how much you squeeze in.
It’s about how well your dogs cope…. And how well you cope (IYKYK.) 🥲
So tell me, what does “holiday mode” look like for you and your dogs? 👇🏼
