Although BERRIMAN the kennel has ceased to be, we Myself, Julius and Princess are still here. My health is improving slightly but I must move to a 1 bedroom unit at a Retirement home in Devonport once I sell my home.
Julius and Princess are coming with me and hopefully in the not too distant future I will get to hear from all the BERRIMAN babes and their pets out in the rest of the world.
Take care

DISTRACTED DOG WALKERS

The distracted dog walker is commonly seen chatting on their cell phone, wearing headphones or socializing with other people while oblivious to what their dog is doing, how their dog is feeling or what is going on in the environment.

This may not sound like a problem, but it is something that many of us have a problem with, even more so if we have a reactive, sensitive dog.

I always compare walking a dog to driving a car. It’s not so much about our driving skills, but having to constantly be aware of the driving skills of others – trying to predict what they will do, which rules of the road they will ignore and how distracted they are. This is especially true in the country I live in, where driving can be a really stressful experience.

I understand that we often need to multi task – there simply doesn’t seem to be enough time in our day to accomplish everything we need to, but walking our dogs should not be one of these times.

Some may say – “but my dog is really friendly, well socialized, gets on well with everyone, is well trained, knows this environment well etc. and I hear that. But another dog might not be – maybe they need space, are reactive, sensitive, selectively social, have health issues, might be terrified of another dog racing straight towards them chasing a ball thrown from a ball launcher etc.

If distracted dog walkers have no regard for other dogs or other people, they should at least have regard for their own dogs.

Walking your dog should be a time of bonding, of connecting, of seeing the environment through the eyes of your dog, of reinforcing and rewarding wanted behaviours, of keeping them safe and protected.

Our dogs need us to be focused, to pay attention, to be aware and attentive. Our dogs depend on us to advocate for them.

I am still here peoples - starting to get better - not happy though because it looks like the past doctor I had years ago had put me on a tablet that created all the illnesses I have endured over the years since 2022 - the drug can even cause or mimick brain dearg and it has only been 3 weeks since I stopped it---------- still battling.

PLEASE PEOPLE CHECK YOUR MEDICATION' side effect and over dose reactions.....................

Mine was a simple matter of my magic currant doct and me discussing things - I went home and took myself off of half the medication and told my doctor a fortnight later - IY IS BETTER TO PROVE and SHOW..............

Princess and Julius are still verry happy little people in my world, and are so happy to see me spend more time out of bed....

Keep well all my Berriman Babes and their pets.

hope you are all enjoying your new year. Still same ol for me. I do miss having all the puppies around me - but with the cost of everything going up so much especially the vet. As you all know it was always the health of the puppies and older dogs for Berriman.

I do not think I could justify keeping all of my future Berriman Babes - staying at reasonable costs for me. Julius is now on Beransa monthly injections - about $128 per month - but it is like liquid gold - he is not likely to go lame again because of the pain and he no longer needs painkiller medicine a couple of times a week and he loves running around with Princess. Father and daughter are very happy.

It has been a good time for my fella's at Sheffield and lots of love to all the Berriman Babes all around Tassie and every state on the Mainland.

Thankyou so much everyone for your beautiful comments on my Berriman babes.

Bought up with much love from birth and not knowing anything else.
Tomorrow I will put up some pictures of both Princess and Julius and their enjoyable Christmas.

Many thanks to all of you for your comments

Tracey xx

so very true - A dog is forever is family...........

DON’T GET A DOG…UNLESS YOU CAN MAKE A COMMITMENT

In an ideal world dogs would be included as a family member and we would commit to sharing our time and life with them in the relatively short time they have on earth.

In an ideal world, we would take the time to learn about how dogs communicate through their body language, their emotions, their needs and keep learning about updated, modern, force free / pain free methods to understand or modify behaviour.

In reality, dogs are so often seen as an item of property, an object, a commodity to be bred and make money from, a cheap, replaceable security system, a garden decoration, a toy to play with when the kids are bored or an accessory that looks good while out walking, running or taking selfies.

Dogs are not objects, just like us they are sentient beings with the capacity to feel a range of emotions.

Dogs are naturally social beings and need to spend time with their human family.

A life spent confined to a backyard or fenced in with little or no human companionship is not a life.

They need love and attention, exercise and mental stimulation. They need routine, consistency and predictable patterns to feel safe and secure in our world.

Having a dog requires commitment, understanding, patience and dedication.

It’s hard work, it’s sometimes messy, dirty and stinky, it costs money and requires changes to our lifestyle.

It’s a decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly or without making a long term commitment, but the rewards of forming a secure bond with another sentient being can bring so much joy and enrichment to both our lives and theirs.
