YARRA JUNCTION’s TURN!

If you missed your chance for a FREE ear consult don’t worry! This week, Monday to Thursday the same amazing offer is available at our Yarra Junction practice.

🐶🐱 FREE EAR CHECKS! 👂 🐶 🐱
This week only we are offering FREE ear consults in light of our new upgrade to our in-house lab! This machine will help us diagnose the cause of an ear infection and guide us in the right direction in terms of treatment!

❗️Please note- this is only at our Yarra Junction and only until Thursday 7th of August.

Ear infections are a common issue we see in both dogs and cats. They can be painful and uncomfortable, but with the right care, they’re treatable.

👂 What to look out for:
If your pet has an ear infection, you might notice:
• Head shaking or tilting
• Scratching at the ears
• Redness or swelling
• A bad smell from the ears
• Discharge (brown, yellow or black)
• Sensitivity when you touch their ears)

🩺 How we diagnose it:
At your pet’s check-up, we’ll:
• Look inside the ear with a special light (otoscope)
• Take a sample of the ear wax or discharge and let our cool new machine look at it!
• In some cases, we may recommend further tests if the infection keeps coming back

💡 Why it happens:
Ear infections can be caused by allergies, bacteria, yeast, ear mites, or even moisture (especially in floppy-eared dogs!). Some breeds are more prone than others.

✅ The good news?
With early treatment, most pets recover well! The key is getting the right diagnosis and using the right treatment — usually ear drops, sometimes tablets, and a good clean.

If you think your dog or cat might have an ear infection, give us a call and this week your consult is free!
*Any further testing and treatment not included 🐾

🐴 Is Your Horse At Risk of Gastric Ulcers?

Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome is one of the most common yet under diagnosed
conditions in horses. Studies show that:

• Up to 90% of racehorses,
• Over 60% of performance horses, and
• Around 50% of leisure horses may be affected by gastric ulcers at some point in
their lives.

❓What Causes Ulcers in Horses?
Horses naturally produce stomach acid 24/7, but when their stomach is empty or
their diet and routine don’t support gut health, this acid can damage the stomach
lining.

❓ How Do We Diagnose It?
The only way to accurately diagnose EGUS is through gastroscopy—a
procedure where we pass a small video endoscope into the stomach to look for
ulcers. It’s safe and gives us immediate answers.

🩺 Symptoms can be subtle, but watch for:
• Reluctance to eat or finish meals
• Weight loss
• Behavioural issues under saddle
• Poor coat quality or teeth grinding
• Girthiness or sensitivity around the flanks
• Intermittent colic or discomfort after meals

📲 Book Now: our next Gastroscopy Day will be held at Yarra Lund, Wandin, on
Thursday 28 th August.
Places are limited so book now to secure your spot!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all the horses out there!

Did you know? 🎉 In the southern hemisphere, all horses celebrate their unofficial birthday on August 1st! 🐴🥳

This makes it easier for horse racing and breeding to keep track of ages, instead of remembering lots of different birthdays.

Happy Horse Birthday to all our four-legged friends! 🎂💖
