Time of year plays a big part when deciding what clip to do on your horse. Earlier in the year, leaving legs on for protection (or because you couldn’t keep them clean) is often the best choice but once coats start shifting, the full clips become far more common. Often the shows start before winter coats have made their way out naturally so a full clip is the way to go.

Little Gracie had a big groom yesterday to prepare for a show on the weekend. Her coat is very much a work in progress as it grows in, but also as I learn how to groom her to the breed standard. Dogs need to be at least 12 months old before we can use them in grooming competitions so we still have plenty of time to practice.

Cancellations are for getting your own horses clipped. A redo of Bug’s blanket clip with half face, but this time I blended the legs instead of taking them off fully. I normally advise to pick a style and stick to it for the season as changing lines results in multiple colours and it can be rather weird, but the legs are the exception here and I’m happy with the result

We made it to the solstice! Today is the shortest day of the year, and it was a very cold start too, so this was pre warming my horse before our 9am lesson 🥶 The good news is every day gets a little longer from here and coat growth slows down. If you’ve been hanging out for mid June so you only have to clip once, or waiting to time your second clip, now is the time to book in! ❄️
