Awareness post: Not only do GAP give greyhounds a second chance, they also provide free information and support. It's only $100 to adopt a greyhound. Despite their athletic appearance, most are couch potatoes! Low maintenance too 🙌

FAST FACTS FRIDAY: Keeping greyhounds cool in the heat 🐾☀️

Greyhounds are super sleek, but that means they’re also more at risk of heat stress. With thin skin and very little body fat, they rely mostly on panting to stay cool, and when that’s not enough, their temperature can rise dangerously fast.

Some signs to watch for:
• Heavy panting or rapid breathing
• Bright red tongue/gums, drooling, or dry mouth
• Weakness, agitation, or lethargy
• Vomiting or diarrhoea

Ways to prevent heat stress:
• Walk early morning or evening, avoid hot pavements
• Provide shaded areas, cool water, paddle pools, or ice treats
• Use cooling mats, wet towels, or air conditioning
• Never leave your greyhound in a car

If your greyhound shows signs of heat stress:
• Move them to a cool, shaded spot
• Gently wipe with a cool damp towel or hose them with cool (not cold) water
• Use ice packs on feet or underarms if needed
• Monitor closely and seek vet care immediately if symptoms persist

🔥 Early action can save lives! Keep your greyhound comfy and safe when the weather heats up.

Awareness post: This organisation is providing the chance for these dogs that were used for laboratory research to find themselves a loving home 💗

Meet George. Three years old, recently released from a research facility, and already proving himself to be a total character.

George is one of those beagles who quietly watches the world first, then pops out with the funniest, goofiest moments once he feels safe. He’s a little shy at the start, but give him time and a confident canine role model and you’ll see his personality shine. In fact, George absolutely needs another dog in the home, ideally a friendly, confident female beagle who can help show him the ropes and build his confidence.

Like many ex-research beagles, the world is still new and a bit strange, but George is curious, gentle and trying his best. With patience, routine and doggy companionship, he’ll make a wonderful addition to the right family.

George is located in Victoria and is looking for an indoor home with secure, beagle-proof fencing. He is untested with cats. A calm, understanding household with another dog is essential for him to thrive.

If you’ve got a blank space on your couch, a secure yard, and a lovely female dog who wouldn’t mind a new best mate, George might just be your guy.
