At this time of year the moths are laying eggs - removal of these egg masses can prevent the caterpillars from hatching and stop the whole cycle, protecting your pregnant mares. It is worth heading out to have a look.

These are some of the foals born in 2020 to mares under my care - They are now heading into the Sales ring as yearling. The 22 sold so far have done very well with a higher average and median price than for each sale. Congratulations to the breeders - great result

Just doing some light Sunday night reading - obesity has several detrimental effects on the developing fetus but most important for anyone breeding athletes is that obese animals and humans have fetus with fibrosis in the heart muscle and reduced heart function - make sure your mares are NOT fat !

This little guy just sold at the Easter Sales in Sydney this week - 11 out of 12 yearling delivered from PPP in 2013 sold at the Inglis Easter Sales - the median price was above the sale median

There have 3 pregnancy losses in 3 days this week - the overall numbers for the year are about average - with no EAFL/EHV cases yet - It is the time of year to start monitoring your mares and treating those that need it before you get to see these - lets break last year's record for the lowest numbers submitted!

The processionary caterpillar eggs have hatched and are growing.
It is time to start checking the trees and bushes around your pregnant mare paddocks.
If you find any nests removed them CAREFULLY - they can cause nasty reactions - and bury them or burn them.
These caterpillars are known to cause abortion in mares so it is best to act now and remove any in the area.

Congratulation to all who sold yearlings in January
12 graduates from Problem Pregnancy Prevention Program sold at the Gold Coast Magic Million - the average was over $260,000 - almost twice the sale average
2 yearlings sold at Karaka - they averaged $325,000 - also double the sale average
