Sasha is a 9-year-old Cattle Dog. She presented at our clinic in late 2024 after a period of ill health and following the loss of her previous owner. On physical examination, Dr David palpated abdominal swelling; therefore, further diagnostic investigations were recommended.
Blood tests were performed and indicated elevated inflammatory markers. To support her during this period, Dr David prescribed homeopathic drops to assist with stress management in addition to liver support herbs. A repeat blood panel was scheduled for one month later.
At the follow-up assessment, results had not improved as anticipated and were suggestive of liver dysfunction. Following discussion with the owner, an abdominal ultrasound was arranged. The ultrasound findings demonstrated enlargement of the left liver lobe with possible leakage, with a hepatic mass within the liver lobes considered the most likely cause. Dr David recommended a CT scan to determine the extent of hepatic involvement.
The CT scan identified neoplastic involvement affecting the liver extensively. Dr David discussed the available management options with the owners, including surgical intervention and medical management. The CT report and ultrasound findings were forwarded to a collaborating surgical specialist for review. After consultation, surgery was not considered a viable option given the degree of liver involvement.
After careful discussion with the owner, a medical management plan was initiated to help slow tumor progression. Dr David dispensed the following medications and supportive therapies: fenbendazole, ivermectin, and cancer therapy herbs.
Purpose of dispensed medications
Fenbendazole: A broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic primarily used to treat gastrointestinal parasitism. Emerging research suggests it may also have potential anti-neoplastic effects.
Ivermectin: An antiparasitic medication. Current research indicates it may have properties that could help inhibit tumor growth in some settings.
Fenbendazole and ivermectin were prescribed for use in combination, with weekly alternation as directed.
Cancer therapy herbs: An herbal support formulation intended to assist overall health and wellbeing during treatment and, where applicable, support anti-neoplastic management.
Sasha has demonstrated marked clinical improvement. As of March 2026, Dr David was unable to palpate any liver lesions, and she had returned to her previous activity levels. The owner has since been able to reduce the number of days on which medications are administered, as advised.
This case illustrates that, in selected patients, a combination of cancer therapy herbs, ivermectin, and fenbendazole may be associated with clinical improvement and may assist in slowing tumor progression. Similar outcomes have been observed in other cases managed with this regimen.
