🎃 Meet Sully! 🐾👻

Looking for something truly terrifying this Halloween? How about 16 paralysis ticks hiding in your dog’s fur… including one inside his ear canal! 😱🕷️

Sully was attacked by another dog while out walking and, frightened, ran off into the bush. After two worrying days, he finally made it home safe and sound! ❤️

Unfortunately, he brought home some unwanted passengers! His owners found four ticks and rushed him straight to My Own Vet, where our nurses discovered plenty more hiding in his coat.

After a not-so-stylish shave, we uncovered and removed a whopping 16 paralysis ticks! 😳 Our nurses were left feeling like phantom ticks were crawling on them for the rest of the day! 👻😂

❤️ A huge shout-out to Sully’s parents for acting so quickly and bringing him straight to My Own Vet! Thanks to their quick action, Sully avoided the potentially serious consequences of having so many paralysis ticks attached to him. 🐶💕

🕷️ The scary takeaway? Paralysis ticks are sneaky little nightmares! Regular, long-acting tick prevention is essential, especially for pets exploring bushland.

Thursday night? Severe storm? Flooding? Ohhhh, so much mud? 🌧️🫠

Apparently, that's just another evening when there are kittens who need saving!

One of our very own vet nurses spent her Thursday night rescuing TWO tiny kittens who needed a helping hand. And because rescuing them wasn't enough, she's now taken on the responsibility of raising these little gremlins, complete with 4-hourly feeds until they find their forever homes! 🍼🐱

Because being a vet nurse apparently means your workday never really ends when there are little lives that need you. 🥹💕

At My Own Vet, we're incredibly lucky to work closely with and support a number of amazing rescue organisations, including Best Friends Feline 🐱❤️. These wonderful groups work tirelessly to give vulnerable cats and kittens a second chance, and we're proud to support the work they do.

Sometimes, though, rescue starts with one person, a very muddy Thursday night, and two tiny kittens who desperately need someone to care. 🥹🐾

A huge thank you to everyone who gives their time, love and energy to helping animals in need. And a special shout-out to our vet nurse, who clearly hasn't quite mastered the art of having a quiet evening! 😂❤️

Okay, okay… they’re not technically bed bugs, but these tiny little terrors are just as good at taking over your bed, stealing your sleep, and refusing to pay rent! 😂🧡

🧡 Introducing our spook-tacular little kitten crew! 🐈‍⬛🎃

They might look innocent, but beware… these miniature monsters are armed with razor-sharp claws, tiny vampire teeth, and a supernatural ability to make you fall in love! 🧛‍♀️🐾

The real horror? Falling in love and realising you can't take them all home! 👀💀

To start off the scary season... we are loosing one of our best nurses 😭

Wishing our wonderful Caoimhe the very best of luck as she leaves us to embark on an exciting new chapter at a Specialist Veterinary Clinic! 🐾💙
Caoimhe will be dearly missed by the whole team, but we couldn’t be more excited to see where this next adventure takes her. Her passion, dedication and care for both our patients and their families will be greatly missed, but we know she is going to thrive in her new role and achieve amazing things.
Thank you for everything, Caoimhe — it’s been an absolute pleasure having you as part of our team. We’re so proud of you and can’t wait to see just how far you’ll go!

Today at My Own Vet, we’re celebrating the incredible humans who somehow manage to wear ALL the hats! 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️🎩
Because being a vet nurse isn’t just being a nurse…
💊 Pharmacist – dispensing medications and somehow remembering who gets what!
📞 Receptionist – answering phones, booking appointments and keeping everyone organised.
🩻 Radiographer – getting that perfect X-ray while contorting into positions humans weren’t designed for! 😂
😴 Anaesthetist – watching every breath, heartbeat and beep like a hawk.
🧹 Cleaner – because bodily fluids have a mysterious way of appearing EVERYWHERE!
🦷 Dental Assistant – scaling, polishing and making those pearly whites sparkle. ✨
🏥 Hospital Nurse – caring for our sickest patients with skill, patience and endless love.
🐕 Dog Walker – because sometimes a patient just needs a little stroll and some fresh air.
🐾 Kennel Hand – feeding, cleaning, comforting and making sure everyone feels safe and loved.
And that’s just the beginning! They’re also animal wranglers, cuddle specialists, professional treat dispensers, shoulder to cry on, and sometimes even therapist to worried humans! 😂❤️

Vet nurses are the heart of every veterinary hospital. They work incredibly hard, often behind the scenes, and give so much of themselves to our patients, their families and our team.
So today, we want to say THANK YOU. 🥰
Thank you for the long days, the late nights, the messy jobs, the difficult cases, the endless cuddles and for advocating for patients who can’t speak for themselves.

To our amazing My Own Vet nurses — we see you, we appreciate you, and we are incredibly lucky to have you. ❤️🐾

🐾 Meet Benny! The little fighter with the BIGGEST personality! 🐾

Benny came to see us for a second opinion after being attacked by another dog. His wound had initially been repaired elsewhere, but unfortunately, it had broken down. 😔

After discussing all the options with Mum, she chose to allow Benny’s wound to heal by second intention — meaning we let his amazing body do the healing naturally rather than surgically closing the wound again.

But this kind of healing takes time, patience and A LOT of TLC… and Benny’s Mum absolutely nailed it. ❤️

Every three days, Benny would come in religiously for a bandage change, and Mum worked incredibly hard to keep his wound clean, his bandage in place and Benny rested between visits.

And then there was Benny himself… 🥹

When he first arrived, he was understandably pretty worried about the vet hospital. But with plenty of gentle handling, reassurance and, of course, a suspiciously large number of treats, Benny slowly learned that coming through our doors wasn’t so scary after all.

By the end of his treatment, our once-nervous little man was happily trotting through the clinic for his bandage changes like he owned the place! 🥰

Safe to say, somewhere along the way, the whole team fell completely in love with this brave little guy. 💙

Benny is a wonderful example of just how incredible the animal body is. Not every wound needs to be surgically closed — sometimes, with the right wound management, time and a very dedicated Mum, the body can do some pretty amazing things. ✨

We are SO proud of Benny and his incredible recovery! 🐶❤️

My Own Vet in Salisbury are urgently trying to find the owner of this beautiful boy. 💔🐱

He has been brought into the clinic in critical condition, and our team is doing everything we can to try to save his life. ❤️‍🩹

We desperately want to give his family the chance to know where he is and be with him.
