Dogs need to dig, it’s in their DNA. But you don’t want your yard torn up and looking raggedy - get it. And I have a solution:

Get yourself a tire or two, find a place in your yard you don’t mind your dog digging, lay the tire on it side and fill with your dog’s favorite treats OR throw their favorite toy inside. Praise them HEAVILY for investigating the tire/digging inside the tire. Each time you catch them digging anywhere else, redirect them to the tire by scattering their fave treats. Repeat. The more consistent you are with them and the more you reinforce and encourage them digging in the tire, they will eventually automatically dig inside the tire.

Dogs need more rest than we think during the day. Think about when you leave your dog at home, what do you think they’re doing?? Probably sleeping! Rest, especially after excitement and play with friends is equally as important as the play.
