We Need Fencing Staples!

Tarcombe Animal Shelter is slowly rebuilding our enclosures following the fires. Unfortunately, many of the fence posts were lost, but thankfully much of the wire survived.

After countless volunteer hours, the new poles and corner assemblies are finally in place. Now comes the old-fashioned hard work — hammering in staples!

For this first enclosure alone, we need to install around 1,500 fencing staples, with many more enclosures still to come.

We're seeking donations of fencing staples that are:
✔ Minimum 4cm long
✔ 4mm gauge

If you're able to help, we'd love to hear from you. Please contact us or get in touch with Robyn Coy .

Every donation helps us get one step closer to providing safe and secure homes for the animals in our care.

Thank you for your support! ❤️

Today we visited Matilda, the mobile vet truck at Wildlife Recovery Australia —and it turned out to be far more confronting than we expected.

While picking up a Cockatoo, the team decided to do an X-ray. Shockingly, it revealed he had been shot with an air rifle—something you’d never know just by looking at him.

Thanks to the incredible skill and care of the specialist vets, the pellet was successfully removed. He’s now stitched up and on the road to recovery.

It’s heartbreaking to see what our wildlife can endure, but also inspiring to witness the dedication of the people working tirelessly to give them a second chance. Hoping this resilient boy makes a full recovery and can return to where he belongs 💛

The presenter says it perfectly - how good is Robyn!
Still a very very long way to go. And with the help of many kind and amazing people, she'll get there!

Not done yet! 💚🔥🌧️

This guy looks more than a little worse for wear. You’d be forgiven for thinking the kindest option would be to put him to sleep.

However… he doesn’t think so!

He’s survived the fires. He’s survived mange. He’s survived flooding rains. 💪

A couple of weeks ago he had his first treatment for mange, and he’s already looking much better. There are no open wounds, the mange is no longer active, and he was recently spotted more than a kilometre from his burrow — so he’s definitely getting around!

Yesterday we found him helping himself to some hay 😊. He’s now got plenty of fresh green yums regrowing to chow down on. 🌱

Wombats are complex little bulldozers. Bringing them into care can cause significant stress, so whenever possible it’s far better to treat them within their home range — where they feel safe, know their territory, and can continue doing what wombats do best.

He’s not done yet — and we’re right behind him, well continue to monitor and treat him as long as we need to.

Juicy, juicy green grass 🌾

With the Longwood landscape still burnt, this big boy thought he’d found the ultimate snack spot. With the kangaroos sneaking into the yard over the past few weeks, he decided to join the buffet too!

Unfortunately he stayed a bit longer than usual, and the resident dogs woke up! They gave him a fright, sending him bolting to the opposite end of the yard instead of his usual exit!

After a quick health check, it was time to gently encourage him out from under his toadstool. And wow — he knew exactly where he was going. Up the rocks like an absolute pro! 🪨👏

To help him out over the next few weeks (and avoid any more doggy drama), the landholders have started placing food along his usual pathway instead of the yard. With all this rain around, hopefully he’ll have his own lush green patch very soon. 🌧️💚

It’s not a race — it’s an ultra triathlon. 🏃‍♀️🚑🦘

The evenings are when the kangaroo mobs begin to move. After an already very long day — finishing much later than planned — two more kangaroos in distress were spotted late into the night.

Leaving them until tomorrow simply wasn’t an option.

So a long day became even longer for everyone, as both were brought into Robyn for assessment and treatment.

With so much time passed since the fires, it's easy to think our response should be over, however there's still animals out there struggling, and needing our help. We're not done yet!

Exhausting? Absolutely.
Worth it? Every single time. 💛

The amazing Dr Robyn Coy of the Tarcombe Animal Shelter
We cannot put into words how incredible, strong and resilient this woman is.
Robyn lost almost everything in the Longwood Fire — her house, fencing, infrastructure, equipment, and so many beloved animals — gone in an instant.

And yet, within a week, she had new enclosures set up and was ready to start treating wildlife again.
Since then, she has assessed, treated, taken in and cared for countless animals. Her dedication is nothing short of extraordinary.

Here you can see Robyn operating a hospital room out of a horse float — performing one of the many, many bandage changes required twice a week.
Robyn is almost 70, and we can only hope at some point we can have the energy, drive and skills of this woman!
This is resilience. This is compassion. This is what true commitment to wildlife looks like. 💛

Our friends at LnLz Wildlife Care & Rescue are currently under a Watch and Act as an out-of-control fire moves their way from Trawool.
As an active wildlife shelter, with many animals in care, they are not in a position to evacuate.
Sam has headed up to help them prepare their sprinkler system and firefighting gear so they’re as ready as possible to defend, and protect their critters. With the right equipment and PPE, they’ll be as prepared as they can be — but it’s going to be a long and stressful evening for everyone involved.

If you’re in a position to support LnLz, please do. They have been doing amazing work out on the fire grounds the past month, and now it's their turn to get some help! https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/LnLzWildlife

It’s a long walk… ❤️🐄

Yesterday Sam headed out to help one of the bigger victims of the fires. A beautiful mama cow, burnt and sore, with a three-week-old calf born just after the fires, was struggling badly.

John and Wendy had already stepped in, knowing she needed urgent care. Her udders were red, raw, and badly infected, and she wasn’t producing milk. With her little calf in tow, she was weak and doing it tough.

Sam and John walked her and her calf for hours in the hot sun to reach yards where she could receive treatment. It wasn’t easy, but giving her a fighting chance made every step worth it.

Sadly, due to the severe infection, she can’t feed her calf right now. Thankfully, a kind-hearted local has taken the calf in for bottle feeding until mum recovers — and she’ll come back home where she belongs.

The dedication John and Wendy have shown is truly heartening. We were so grateful to stand alongside them and help this brave mama and her baby.

Good morning! ☀️

This beautiful Little Corella was found injured near the Nagambie Lakes Caravan Park after being hit by a car. He wasn’t doing well when he was first rescued, but after several weeks of care and rehabilitation, he made an incredible recovery.

Now fully healed and strong again, he was released back home to rejoin his massive flock in Nagambie — right where he belongs. 💛🕊️
