🐓 WORKING EQUITATION CLINIC WITH PERRY NANCARROW šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡µšŸ‡¹

We are thrilled to welcome Perry Nancarrow back to South East Queensland following his qualifying results to represent Australia at the WAWE World Championships in Spain.

šŸ“… Working Equitation Clinic: 7–8 November
šŸ“… Boot Camp: 2–6 November
šŸ“ Hodges Equestrian, Calvert QLD
šŸ½ļø Welcome Dinner: Saturday 7 November

Private and group tuition available, with one-on-one Q&A opportunities.

This is an invaluable opportunity for riders, coaches, judges and working equitation enthusiasts to learn from Perry’s wealth of practical and technical knowledge.

It is one thing to know the rules of a sport, but another to truly understand the development of your horse, balance, positioning and correct preparation to successfully navigate obstacles across all levels of working equitation.

About Perry

Perry Nancarrow is an accomplished Australian horseman who grew up with a classical dressage background in NSW before relocating to Portugal more than 10 years ago. There, he immersed himself in the culture and training methods of the equitation masters, learning from generations of knowledge and horsemanship.

Perry brings not only an impressive resume of practical experience, having ridden, trained and successfully competed with some of the world’s best, but also a wealth of technical knowledge from both a training and competitive perspective.

Whether you are looking to improve your own riding, develop your horse, refine your obstacle work, deepen your understanding as a competitor, coach, judge, or simply gain a greater insight into working equitation — this clinic is an opportunity not to be missed.

šŸŽŸļø Places are limited.

For more information or to secure your spot, send us a DM or contact Liz on 0418 781 223.

We look forward to welcoming you to Hodges Equestrian! šŸ¤ŽšŸŽ

Some great pictures from Trace Digital as always from the Tri Valley Equitation event last weekend.
To say that I am blessed with an amazing kind gentleman of a stallion is an understatement

I’m so pleased to share a few photos from an incredible weekend at the latest ANWE Qld affiliated club event and NDHD’s inaugural Working Equitation Horse of the Year. It has already become another wonderful gathering place for our growing, supportive and enthusiastic Working Equitation community.

🄈 Eldi once again proved himself to be a consistently reliable and ever-willing partner, finishing 2nd in Consagrados 1. He absolutely loved the atmosphere of the event, not only indulging in every moment of his pampered preparation but also thriving on the opportunity to show off in front of the evening crowd. Together, Eldi and Hodges brought a little Aussie flair to every phase of the competition. We couldn’t be happier with Eldi’s steady temperament and incredible work ethic, which make him an absolute pleasure to have around.

šŸ… Lacey stepped up another level to Debutante W, finishing 4th, and proved she was more than ready. She is a wonderfully complicated mare—very much black and white in both colour and character—and I am constantly striving to refine not only our performance but also our understanding of one another.
For a horse who gives 110% almost all of the time, I’m learning to trust our training and resist the temptation to overdo the warm-up before the test. Otherwise, she starts offering ā€œnew and creativeā€ answers to questions she already knows! One of my biggest lessons from this competition came during the Ease of Handling and Speed phases. When walking the course, I realised I need to visualise every possible scenario—not just the less-than-ideal ones. To my surprise and absolute delight, Lacey executed my dream line perfectly, maintaining the right canter lead over the jump before making a sharp left turn back in counter canter to approach the coat pick-up on the correct lead. I was so excited she’d pulled it off in canter—an obstacle I’d fully expected to ride at walk—that I completely missed my timing for the coat drop-off! We live and learn. šŸ˜‰

šŸ„‡ Frankie... where do I begin? This incredible 4-year-old Lusitano came to me in October last year as a green-broken horse, and our journey together has been interesting, challenging and incredibly rewarding. Frankie has never lacked talent—or big emotions! In the past, he could go from 1 to 10 in the blink of an eye, so much of our partnership has focused on developing the confidence and emotional regulation to come back from 10 to 1.
With every outing, he continues to improve, allowing his natural ability to shine through. I couldn’t be prouder of him for taking out 1st place in Introductory, and I truly believe this is just the beginning of what will be a very exciting career.

A huge thank you to Bec and Susanne for entrusting us with these amazing horses; Kate and the wonderful welcoming NDHD crew; the judges for their time and valuable feedback; Abbie for the sensational tail plait; our sponsors CEN Horse Nutrition for keeping our horses in tip-top shape, and BlackHorse Equestrian for keeping us competition-ready in their super stylish breeches and waterproof leather paddock boots, which proved invaluable in the mud over the weekend; photographers Snapped Shots and RowanW Photo for capturing these special moment.

Finally, a special thank you to our fellow competitors. The friendships, encouragement and absolutely hysterical laughter shared over the weekend are every bit as memorable as the competition itself.

Congratulations to everyone who competed. It’s a privilege to be part of such a positive and passionate community, and we’re already looking forward to the next one!

Morning ride out with Tilly and Lacy this morning.
We’re so very excited to be expecting her first embryo foal this year. She is proving to show all the wonderful Lucitano traits.

One of my favourite ways to start the day, before the busyness of life takes over, is to spend 15 quiet minutes sitting beside Lio (Helios) my 6-month-old Iberian c**t while he enjoys his breakfast.

I simply sit with him and wait for the moment he lifts his mash-encrusted muzzle to let me know he has finished.

Although he has been weaned alongside X’Caliba, a gentle old giant who will help shape him into a horse of good character, Lio is still very much a growing c**t and X’Caliba will happily guzzle his own feed and, if given the opportunity, help himself to little Lio’s as well.

My purpose isn’t to fuss over him, pat him constantly, or encourage him to become overly familiar or boisterous. Instead, it is simply to be present—to let him know he is safe, and to find a little peace in each other’s quiet company.

These small moments of connection often become the most meaningful part of the day.
