🐾 The Side of Running a Business You Don’t Always See… 🐾

You may have noticed we weren’t in Rockhampton yesterday. While we'd love to spend every day out grooming dogs, there's a whole other side to running a company and franchise that happens behind the scenes.

There’s paperwork, administration, compliance, policies, procedures, planning, record keeping and plenty of things we honestly never knew were involved until we became Franchisor! 📋💻

And lately, there’s something else keeping us busy too…

✨ We’re building another business to complement our current one. ✨

It’s something we've been working on behind the scenes, and while we're not ready to share everything just yet, it's another exciting step forward for us.

Building one business while running another certainly keeps us on our toes! 😂

Some days we're behind the grooming table, other days we're behind a computer making sure everything is done properly—and both are equally important to keeping the wheels turning.

But today we're back doing what we love, staying close to home and bathing dogs right here in Biloela. 🐶🛁💗

Running a business isn't always the part you see on Facebook. There are long days, paperwork and plenty of learning along the way—but we're proud of what we're building.

🐾 Ever Wonder Why I Wear a Neck Sock, Mask, Safety Glasses and Hearing Protection While Grooming? 🐾

It's a question I get asked quite often!
The answer is simple—they're all part of my personal protective equipment (PPE).

Every day, groomers are exposed to thousands of tiny hair fragments, skin cells (dander), dust, dried shampoo and other airborne particles. When clippers and high-velocity dryers are used, these particles become airborne and can easily be inhaled or get into our eyes. On top of that, high-velocity dryers and clippers can produce noise levels that, with repeated exposure over time, may contribute to hearing damage.

😷 My neck sock or mask helps protect my lungs by reducing the amount of hair, dander and dust I breathe in throughout the day.

🥽 My safety glasses protect my eyes from those tiny flyaway hairs that always seem to find their way into them! They also help protect against shampoo splashes, nail dust and debris blown around during drying.

🎧 My hearing protection helps reduce my exposure to the loud noise created by high-velocity dryers and clippers. Looking after my hearing now means I can continue grooming safely for many years to come.

Many people don't realise that dog grooming comes with occupational health and safety risks. Long-term exposure to airborne hair and dander has been associated with an increased risk of respiratory irritation and occupational allergies, while prolonged exposure to excessive noise can contribute to permanent hearing loss if adequate hearing protection isn't used.

Wearing PPE isn't about looking serious—it's about protecting my health so I can continue doing what I love for many years to come.

So if you see me looking a little different behind the grooming table, don't worry—I'm simply making sure I go home with healthy lungs, protected eyes, good hearing, and ready to groom another happy pup tomorrow! 🐶💗

🐾 Why You'll Never See Us Leave Your Dog Unattended on the Grooming Table 🐾

One question we're sometimes asked is why we always take a dog off the grooming table if we need to step outside the trailer—even if it's only for a few seconds.

The answer is simple: your dog's safety always comes first.

Dogs are a lot like young children. They can move unexpectedly, lose their footing, or become startled in an instant. Even the calmest, best-behaved dog can suddenly jump, spin, or try to follow their owner.

When a dog is attached to a grooming arm, a slip or fall can have serious consequences. If a dog becomes suspended by the neck, even briefly, it can result in:

🐾 Injury to the neck or airway.
🐾 Damage to the oesophagus or surrounding soft tissues.
🐾 Panic and lasting fear associated with grooming.
🐾 In severe cases, suffocation or death.

For us, no task is important enough to take that risk.

If we need to answer the door, retrieve equipment, or step outside the trailer for any reason, your dog comes off the table first and is placed safely on the floor or in another secure area before we leave the grooming space.

It might take an extra minute, but we'd rather lose a minute than risk a lifetime of regret.

Safety isn't something we compromise on—it's part of every groom we do.
