Promoting Responsible Dog Ownership with Obedience Training

MRODC has been training dogs and their owners in the Macedon Ranges area since it's inception in 1979. We aim to provide an opportunity for owners to gain a better understanding of their dogs through obedience training and to provide them with the skills necessary to integrate their pet into the family and the wider community. We offer c

lasses from entry-level beginner's classes, suitable for new owners with a young puppy or new dog, continuing right through to the formal discipline of competitive obedience trials. The club also hosts regular events, including fun days, inter-club competitions and obedience trials. Our club rooms are open on training days, and include a well-stocked library containing books on a wide range of dog-related topics including general interest to training and behaviour. We also have a club shop that stocks most dog training requisites such as leads and collars.

Just a friendly (and tail-wagging!) reminder that Twilight Training kicks off tomorrow evening – Wednesday, 10th December 2025!

All pups and handlers from Classes 1–5 are warmly invited to join in the fun throughout the Christmas break. Whether your dog is a seasoned star or still mastering “sit,” we’d love to see you there!

Cost: $5 per class
(Card payments only please, no cash accepted during twilight sessions.)

And here’s the feel-good bonus: All proceeds will be donated to a charity chosen by our members at the end of daylight savings! 🎁🐶

Come for the training, stay for the festive vibes!

You’re invited to our Dog Club Christmas Break-Up!

Join us on Sunday 7th December 2025 for a festive morning of fun as we celebrate the end of another great year.

We’ll kick off the day with a BBQ breakfast from 9:30am, followed by activities for everyone to enjoy — including a jumping castle, ice cream van, and our End-of-Year Handler Awards 🏅

And of course… a very special visit from Santa 🎅🏼

Please note: There will be no training on this day, but we’d love to see all our members come along and bring your children or grandchildren to join in the fun.

Important: If you haven’t already, please provide the names and ages of any children or grandchildren aged 12 and under who will be attending so Santa can prepare something special.

This morning's threatened rain gave way to a successful hosting of the Rocky Shield on our home ground. Our members' hard work paid off as they emerged victorious in the inter-club competition, claiming the Rocky Shield against Melton Obedience Dog Club in a very close result.

Sharing again for anyone looking at getting a puppy 🙃

Very important to pass on if you know anyone that is looking for a pup for their family for Christmas too 🥹

This is something everyone should see. This xray is of a 2 week old puppy.

When you get your 8/10 week old puppies, please keep this image in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.

When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in.

But when you're letting puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint.

You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one.

Once grown - around 12-18 months depending on their breed, you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.
